My engine started knocking terribly loud a few months ago and im ready to get her back on the road so I need to find a decent engine to bring her back to life!

Best bet is to pull an 05 aviator engine and swap the intake manifold (and a few other minor things). Plus the 05 aviators have the DC heads.

What all parts will I have to swap?

You will see during the swap but off the top of my head:
Valve covers
COT
Waterpump return tube (Heatercore to waterpump, runs in the valley)
Crank pulley
Timing cover (optional but I would)
Heatercore return to COT pipe (runs along pass side head)
Oil filter adapter
Intake manifold
I think thats it. I'm sure someone else will chime in

So this engine is equivalent to the motors in the Marauders? Same horsepower and everything?

Will one of the Moderators please consider adding a new Forum folder titled, "Engine", where we can capture all things engine related. With 100,000 plus odometer readings, engine replacements are being more common.

4.6L 4v, cams and all are the same as stock. You could do the same with an 03-04 mach1 motor. I'm not as educated on the ins and outs as some members are. but from my reading and building they are identical aside from the parts I listed (and again maybe a few others).

Ive decided to just pull my motor out and have it rebuilt. I dont feel confident putting a used motor in it with high mileage seems that I only can find high mileage replacements in the DMV area. Ive seen some rebuild kits online with pistons rings and everything..anybody suggest a particular rebuild kit?

Are you doing a stock rebuild? I hope not.
At the very least, get some Diamond Pistons and good rods.

All depends on the price if im gonna do stock or not. You know the price of the kit that you mention?

Diamond is just a piston, not a rebuild kit..most rebuild kits are lower end components to make it cheap to buy..it is better to source the key components even for a budget oriented build

There will be no CHEAP in this venture sir... These engines are not cheap to re build at all.
You could rebuild the engine with good pistons and rods for about 3k.
It's very doable

Yes that may be in the higher end, what do you have $ for a budget for a rebuild?

Coyote motor, you would need more mods to make it run in your Marauder. But if you think 15k is too much for a performance motor...... You may want to rethink owning a 500 hp car.

Really..funny guy @2Mercs. Im not looking to build a race car im just trying to get it back running with a decent motor I just got settled in to my new house so im not spending too much to do this at all. All i need is what is necessary and maybe a little more..

Well I found out that an 05 Aviator engine is not the same as our engines. The block and pistons are not the same set up. The engine looks identical somewhat but the valve cover on the passenger side has the pcv valve port in the wrong place on the valve cover. After it got to my shop and we looked at it the driver was told to bring it back because it will not work..but they found me a original Marauder engine with 97k on it. So i'm going to drop that in and probably add a new set of cams on it and possibly headers. Anybody reccomend a good set of cams?

Aviator engines need some of your Marauder items to be swapped over..cam covers is one.

This shop that says an aviator engine won't work is going to put cams in for you??? I'm going to subscribe to this thread...

East-West used auto parts in MD they told the driver to bring the engine back because it will not work for the Marauder. Can anybody tell me what has to be swapped other than the valve covers??

If you would have used the aviators long block, you would bolt on your oil pan and pickup tube. Front timing cover, valve covers, intake manifold, ect
This would be the time to inspect the chains and guides while the new motor is torn apart.
Nothing wrong with inspecting everything before spending all that time to install it
What were the prices on the used engines if you don't mind me asking?

1800 Was the price of the aviator engine 101k and the Marauder engine they found me but unfortunately the Marauder engine had something broken on the block so they couldn't sell it to me so i'm searching again..I will probably see if they will send me back the aviator engine..

I just finished helping a friend stuff a Ford 5.4 DOHC crate motor (M-6007-M54) into his Crown Vic Sport. This beast has 550 HP and 510 ft-lbs of torque. For a DOHC motor, that's awesome. If you have $ 12 K to spend, Ford Performance engines has your motor waiting on the shelf.

What are the right part numbers for pistons and crank though Diamond?
Can someone shed light on this please?

You remember off hand exactly what you had to replace and what additional parts were needed for this swap?

I have used 2 Aviator engines in MMs so far with great results so I'll speak from my experience. I look for the 2005 up becuase they have the re-cast heads with better cooling. They can be easily identified becuase Ford painted the left head with a big blue stripe on the outside above the exhaust ports and on the back side. This was per a TSB for head issues. It was a way to verify the casting number was the later head design.
You can only use the long block assembly. That is, the block and heads. Everything else has to come off the MM and go on the Aviator engine. If you want a list, here goes.
Intake, cam covers, flywheel, Front vibration damper, engine/trans seperator plate, oil dipstick, oil pan, oil pump pick up tube, windage tray (Aviator does not have one), front cover, coolant crossover tube, all heater hose tubes, the coolant tube down the center of the block valley. Also have to remove a temperature sensor from the back side of one head, and then use your old bolt that holds the battery cables to the rear of the right head. So everything except the block and head assembly.
While your in there, replace the oil pump (the MM one is the same as the 5.4 one, different part number than an Aviator), chain guides and get the metal lower tensioners (Ford will give you the plastic ones as a service part) the metal are the Cloyes units (who supplied them to Ford) and also used on the Cobra engines. The plastic tensioners use a silicone seal to the block that can blow out in under 10K miles. The metal ones seal via machined surface and can't blow out. Also they have a ratchet system to always keep tension on the chain.
Its not that hard. I would be a little suspect of a shop that could not figure this out. I did and I do it in my garage. We have had 6 MMs, still have 4. Good luck.
