I'm having the usual BCM troubles and it's time to replace. I'm having trouble finding a Motorcraft brand bcm. What aftermarket brand do you guys recommend?

I don't remember but I think the one I got was a dorman. And it's going 3 years strong lol

I recommend a Motorcraft one.

I can fix yours, send you one that is repaired or here is one on eBay.

BTW........ I'd never buy an aftermarket BCM or blend door actuator. New ones are cheap enough and aftermarkets have a very short service life.

Considering the car I bought was on its 3rd motorcraft bcm, I took my chances with dorman. And it has already outlived one of the motorcraft ones.

I just put in a Dorman one yesterday. The oem one was dead in the usual spot. I am planning on fixing mine as a spare.

Do these fail more at a certain mileage or age of the car? I only asked because my car has just under 62k and it doesn't get driven a whole lot.

Planned obsolescence. Simple as that. Ford is great at it.

How reliable is fixing the existing bcm? I've seen pictures of failed ones with the melted solder joints and it doesn't look terrible to re-solder. Do they all fail in the same manner? I repaired my lcm years ago with an external relay and it's been trouble free ever since so I'm willing to give repairing the bcm a shot.

If you have an iron that can get hot enough, it's an easy fix.

I have baked many computer boards with failed solder joints with success. 385 for about 8 min. Just saying...

That is how I fixed my PS3 twice with a heat gun. However each time it only lasted a month or 2. But long enough to backup the hard drive.

If I go that route, I'm putting salmon fillets in the oven as well!

The electrical engineer I used to work with tried to fix my original one for me. It lasted 1 year and went out again. Whatever was wrong the second time was harder to pin down. He wanted to keep poking around at it trying different things. I told him that as difficult as it was to get in and out of the car I was not willing to try any more fixes. Went aftermarket and it has been fine so far. I think I went Wells but I can't remember for sure. Whoever it was touted a revised design in the description on rock auto.
