I just got 2003 Marcury Marauder it came with a rod knock. I'm planing to fix the original motor so the car remains a numbers match Marauder. What is a good crankshaft and bearings to youse in this motor? :coolman.
The stock crank seems to have good reputation, the rods not so much.

What should I look for I have no idea. I paint cars for a living. Lucky me I found a Marauder that is in very good condition inside and out wit original paint. But it has a rod nock. Plans are to rebuild original motor maybe Supercharge it. But I need help. Any one live in south Florida that can help the cause? Maybe you need a real paint job on you Marauder.

Rebuilding a 4valve modular is pricey, depending on if you do any if the work of not. Stock rebuild, $4-5k, higher end rebuild $6-9k or even more if you want. Adding a supercharger $ 5-7k unless you install. These are ballpark numbers. Ymmv

If you're not going to add a supercharger, turbo or nitrous, you may only need an $80.00 set of rod bearings. You can change those on an engine stand without removing the heads even. Of course you may as well go through the entire thing, get a hone, new oem rings, crank bearings, head gaskets. If you use OEM, the parts are cheap. The labor is the killer if you can't do any of this yourself.

I found a Marauder 4.6 block for $600. Don't know if I should swap blocks or rebuild the original. Don't want to spend $600 on the wrong thing. Please help

Is it just a block, short block, long block? What do you plan on doing with this in the end? Show car, daily driver, street, street and strip? Any power adders? Your stock block may be fine inside. You likely just need bearings. Have you tried pulling individual fuel injector plugs off to see which cylinder is knocking and if it quiets down? That'll tell you if it's a rod bearing,

I've never seen a VIN stamped into a late model Ford engine - so rebuild/replace does not really mess with numbers matching.

I'm going to start by dropping the oil pan and see what's going on under there tomorrow hopping It just a bearing. If it's an easy fix I will rebuild the block I just bought with the good crank, rods,Pistons I really want to supercharge it.

A few people told me I can change the rods and bearings without taking the motor out. Is that true? If it is I have a good block for sale.

There's nothing to figure out, I was just curious as to how that had anything to do with answering OP's question lol!

So I can't lift the motor high enough to drop the pan? I was willing to try but if your telling me I can't that suck. I paint cars I'm not a mechanic. You don't think there is enough room to lift the motor. Any one need some paint work in exchange doing the work on my motor.

I believe I saw mention of someone on here moving the motor up enough to be able to pull the pan.
Engine block $600
Machine shop bore/hone $175
Forged/balanced 900hp rotating assembly $2,300
Engine assembly, degreeing and install $0 just my time
Zack and other know those numbers are real.

The casting has last 8 of the VIN stamped just above the pan, driver side. On mine, 4X671051.

Sorry not you. My mechanic tells me all the wrong things to do. Like drop the oil pan. I just want to know how hard it is to pull the motor. If there is any one here willing to help me with my Marauder. I will barder paint work for motor help. I am a master auto painter that needs a mechanic to help me fix a rod knock on my Marauder. Again sorry
