Just sign up for the Events when Registration is opened up for Marauderville XIV (MV14) once the venues and itinerary get finalized. Shouldn't be long now.

Depending on how convenient you are to the hotel, you may wish to reconsider staying at the hotel for a night or two. The host hotel activities and informal gathering of the members is half of the Marauderville experience. Hanging with other members after the formal events is a major part of the overall Marauderville get together.

Break up the trip, add a couple extra days, much more fun. That's how a number of us made the trip to Vegas last year, I continued on to Santa Monica, CA Pier, dipped our feet in the Ocean and started our return trip to Cleveland, OH.

(Enjoyed Vegas enough to return this week with two daughters, one of which has job testing and interviews. Having a blast visiting with FastMerc, and Fremont Street Experience, Top of the World@ Stratosphere, Hoover Dam, etc)

HH points are taken care of by hotel desk at check-in. Don't ask me why, it just is that way. Just make sure you show your card and remind them to update your account, at check in.

Ken

I believe every city or county can have a different "bed" tax. I'm sure that Cuyahoga county raised the tax in time for the RNC.

I was able to book from my hhonors page using the group code for the group price. Make sure that you do update at check-in. If not a member already, please join hhonors for the free wifi at this Embassy. Besides, the points add up quickly and help earn discounts on future stays.

I believe every city or county can have a different "bed" tax. I'm sure that Cuyahoga county raised the tax in time for the RNC.

You are correct and keeping track of the taxes is complicated. Generally, each city, county, and/or town imposes taxes for hotel/motel occupancy. These taxes are typically controlled by the States who allow the lower jurisdictions to tax through legislation.

I just stayed in Carlisle, PA where there was a 6% State Tax and a 3% Local Tax on a hotel room.

In Virginia, the hotel room tax amount depends on where you stay. Some cities, counties and towns are more greedy than others. Typically, it is a 6% State Tax plus a 6% Hotel Tax (where 2% is for Hotel Occupancy, 2% is for Tourism, and 2% is for Regional Transportation). Some cities like Richmond get to snatch another 6%. So the range is about 12-18% in Virginia.

I have also seen a Resort Tax at some locations levied on top of the above.

These taxes get approved Locally or appear as Referendums during voting season and are always "sold" on the basis that they just screw the visitors from Out-of-Town. Pay backs when you are Out-of-Town is a biatch !!

NEED some expert advice... I need a quality trucking company to freight my Marauder from Sacramento to the Cleveland OH Marauderville Embassy hotel.

Just landed "a work trip" in Arkansas the week after Marauderville XIV... just a short 13 hour trip after Marauderville Sunday/Monday gets me to the office in time!

Then I can drive home from Arkansas again!

IF you know/trust a great trucking company--post up or PM me please.

You should see some of the add on taxes I see in the hotels I stay!! $$$

Hotels are starting to use "market price" so if they are close to sold out the rate jumps, or some event is in the next town they raise the rates for overflow.

Living in Cleveland and working, we probably wouldn't be joining any of the sight seeing activities on the itinerary, but would definitely be interested in actual Marauder gatherings and hanging out afterwards! And, we'd definitely be interested in the car show for Saturday, Sept 10. Is there any info on whereabouts this will be? Also, would love taking part in a small convoy! We have great scenic surface streets for that!

If anyone else needs to do this, please post in this thread so Ken can confirm with the hotel to make the rate change to your booking.

If you're able to select rooms per check-in email, it is highly recommended to select a high room on North end of building for the view. Secondarily, pick West end.

Real nice hotel (exceeded my expectations as far as the room quality!), but was not thrilled that WIFI was not complimentary as it is in virtually every other hotel I've stayed at.

Meanwhile, they offered six drink tickets for a manager's cocktail social in the lobby. Think maybe they could have skipped the social and thrown in the WIFI? :D

I really liked the hotel; but it was not without some problems. The layout with the 8 floor atrium overlooking the main floor was incredible. The elevators were always available within 1 minute and all were operating 24/7 while we were there. However, there were issues.

1. I checked in on-line before arrival and was assigned a room on the 6th floor. I special ordered some things to be in my room upon arrival .... this didn't work because I was upgraded to the Premium Floor on the 8th Level. I didn't know this until they handed my wife keys for a suite on the 8th floor. The pre-order didn't work at all.

2. There was no room/suite number on the front of my room. I just figured it was in sequence. Maybe it was just an "extra" room that they give to Upgrades !! Mentioned it to the desk folks but not fixed.

3. The refrigerator in my room didn't work properly. It didn't get cold at all and no freezer either. My wife has medication that needs to be refrigerated so this was more than just an inconvenience. I told this to the desk people and they said that they would send maintenance up to take a look. If they went up .... they ONLY looked because that refrigerator still wasn't working when we left on Sunday morning.

4. Wednesday and Thursday nights were fine. But on Friday, the kiddie show arrived and took over the entire hotel. Kids were all over the place riding elevators for the hell of it and stopping on every floor like it was a game. We ended up stopping at every floor going Up or Down for the last 2 days. I overheard a few kids saying that they had been on every floor several times and were site seeing and running along the balconies. Most of the kids appeared to be unsupervised and they took over the area by the pool tables and the waterfall. Some were from the kids Ice Hockey League ... not sure about the others.

5. The FREE WiFi offered to Hilton Honors Members terminated on the morning of the checkout so you could not check the Internet before departing the hotel. This kinda sucked.

6. The Happy Hour line was a joke on Friday and Saturday with more than 50 people in line and only one bartender. We passed on FREE just to avoid the wait. Wednesday and Thursday were much better and even had table service in the bar and the restaurant area.

7. Some floors may have had a bug/spider problems because I know of two cases.

8. Overall, I would rate the hotel as a 7 of 10. I loved the layout and the set-up. They have to work on customer service some and quality (room # and refrigerator problems). Not sure how to handle the kid problem. Maybe we were just Lucky.

9. Reserved parking and some security in the lot would have been a plus.

10. There were some serious problems with many of the concrete drainage drop boxes around the hotel and in the parking lot. Many of these drainage drops were sagging badly with raised concrete edges nearly 3 inches tall. One box on the back side was completely collapse and surrounded by orange cones. I am really surprised that no one in our group cut a tire or damaged a rim hitting one of those raised lips. Maybe we are just a bit more careful of our cars. I wonder if any of the other hotel residents were not a lucky as we were. For a fairly new hotel, that parking lot was in really bad shape with lots of drainage failures. Poor quality workmanship.

Just my thoughts FWIW.

Yes, the child invasion was an issue, it's not the hotel's fault that the adult supervision was piss-poor but the hotel should have spent as much time admonishing them as they did us MM members who were making a little noise in the amplifying atrium echo chamber.

Other than that, I had no problems.

I checked my phone data and was way under w/rollover, so I stayed on LTE. I did complain about it in the survey they emailed me...

Worked out though, went outside. Yeah, especially since they were rather lax with the children screaming at 7am. After most everyone went inside, Ryan, Rachel and I briefly talked to the deputy on duty that night. He was okay with us congregating so long as we didn't get rowdy. He asked about the moonshine, which we passed off as water. :D

I had no problems with the hotel. I also was on the 8th floor. The code they gave me for the free soft drinks and snacks worked perfectly. The floor attendant (Laurie) was very charming. We talked often when she was making up our room.
You are correct that the children who were running and screaming in the halls were out of control. It was a lack of parenting. The hotel did, however, make the attempt at handling the situation. Several times a hotel staff member told the children that they had to be with a parent, and that running and making noise was not acceptable. Still....where were the parents? Bad children come from bad parents!

9. Reserved parking and some security in the lot would have been a plus. Was this really an issue. We had a HUGE parking lot that was never more than half full. The only night that I expected it to be fuller was on Saturday, there was originally supposed to be a wedding reception in 3 of the 4 ballrooms combined. They offered us the 4th ballroom, which I refused out of respect for the wedding party (which never materialized). Most of us were parked in the back corner, like I figured would happen. Why did we need reserved parking and Security? (Was there any issues?) BTW, the general public don't respect our reserved parking, they park in the middle of us anyways!

Real nice hotel (exceeded my expectations as far as the room quality!), but was not thrilled that WIFI was not complimentary as it is in virtually every other hotel I've stayed at.If anyone would've mentioned it, I would've shared the code. I posted for everyone to join hhonors and use your number, wifi was free. No cost

The hotel was completely renovated in time for the RNC, but obviously the parking lot was not a priority, since most of the people arrived in town by bus, or possibly picked up at the airport by bus, and then shuttled downtown by bus. I saw convoys of buses, and few cars at the hotels during that time.

Was this really an issue. We had a HUGE parking lot that was never more than half full.

Not a necessity. Not a big problem. I said that it would have been a PLUS for the Marauder Group.

Yes, the back lot was generally fairly open. However, it was pretty far out in the back and not in close proximity to any entrance. A roped off area near the side Ballroom entrance would have been excellent and it would have kept the riff-raff door dinger parkers from jamming between 2 Marauders.

Some of us parked together on the side of the building and came out the next morning to see Hondas, Toyotas and big SUVs jammed in the spaces between cars when one of our guys left to get gas or run an errand.

Ryder trucks, U-Hauls, an Army 18-wheeler, and Conference vans all ended up back in that North 40 lot. In retrospect, security was not a problem. Even the vandals must not like to walk. The condition of the parking lot drainage drops was an issue. Fortunately I didn't hear of anyone hitting those raised concrete lips and damaging a tire or rim.

TRUE STORY --- On Saturday morning, FW_Linc/Merc and I were detailing our cars on the side lot. We both had our doors open with a 1/2 space in between. Some idiot with a red Cadillac SUV tried to back in between the cars. I walked up alongside his car and gave him my best "What the Hell are you trying to do ???" stare from about 3 feet away. He took the hint and pulled out but was not happy. If someone would do that while 2 people were there watching, what do you think happens when no one is around. Morons everywhere !!

A/C in room did not work. Complained about it, maintenance showed up and argue with me about the thermostat on the wall. I could not keep the room cool it stayed around 75*.

And the night manager bithat was rude and condescending to guests and her staff. Already wrote a review to the hotel and I do not usually write reviews.

The hotel was a 3. Poop running down the side of the stool when we checked in. The fridge had a huge frost problem, @ 3 inches. Friday morning I awakened to a HUGE spider in my bed. I must have killed it in my sleep. The security we needed was not in the parking lot, it should have been inside the place. Had I brought some A-1 sauce, I would have BBQ'ed those unruly kids. All in all it was an average experience. It did, however seem like a 4 star hotel compared to the one in Michigan for that Marauderville.

#1 ^^^^^^ ah, the memories of that Michigan hotel -- UGH!!!

Our room was great until Saturday night when the two rooms next to us had a multi-family group. Counted 12-14 people occupying those two rooms and noise finally stopped at 2am Sunday morning.
And I did not see where the management did anything to handle the young brats running rampant throughout the entire hotel.

I got the hairy eyeball Saturday night when I went up to go to bed because I asked the manager to see in writing the policy that the common areas close at midnight. The only thing she had was a list that stated "quiet time" begins at 11pm. Nowhere did it say that we could not occupy the area. I told her that we are paying guests and that our "quiet time" is 8am! She was a straight up biotch. I didn't have a problem with the hotel or the fact that the hotel management (aside from the parents) let the little rugrats run rampant until this incident. There are ways to diffuse and handle a situation and she did neither. The fact that she hawked us as we went back up to our rooms like she was Miss Hannigan or something was unnecessary. :censor:

Bad children come from bad parents!Amen to that, brother. It gets worse every generation. My parents would have been livid had my sister and I behaved the way those kids did.

The only other thing I didn't like was the whole 8-floor atrium concept. It just acts like a giant echo chamber and lets every little sound reverberate badly. Thankfully there was a separate door into the BR I could close to keep it fairly quiet.
