My girlfriend is an amateur photograher and she often takes great pictures of my car so this time we decided to take some pictures with it in front of the most popular sight in my area.

Down the road from the tiny village that I live in you will find Wewelsburg castle, it is famous for being the only triangular castle in Germany and it has a lot of mostly dark history. The current structure as it stands today was build at the beginning of the 17th century but the first records of a castle at this location date back into the 9th century however the castle gained most of its dark fame only in the 1930s during the Nazi regime when it was bought by SS leader Himmler who was basically Hitlers right hand. At first it was only used to house and train high ranked SS officers but Himmler had big plans for this castle to become the SS main headquarter of the entire Third Reich. WWII broke out before any of this could happen and Hitler cut Himmlers budget so at the end he couldn't do anything with his castle. Towards the end of the war before American troops reached this area, Himmler ordered the castle to be destroyed. It was later rebuild over the following decades and now hosts a youth hostel as well as an SS museum.

This is just the brief history of the castle, if you want to know more about it you can read it all on Wikipedia --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wewelsburg

I'm just going to post a few pictures below, if you want to see all of them in high res you can go here --> http://www.supermotors.net/registry/24043/85748

She has a good eye. I remember sites like this from when I was stationed in Germany, back when it was still West Germany. Lot of history in the area.

Very nice pics !!! :2thumbs: You always have some great shots of your car.

Never made it to see many of the castles up north when I was there '75-'78 and '86-'89. Did get to see many of the castles along the Rhine River. Spent a weekend in a suite at Burg Rheinfels in 1988 (St. Goar/Goarshausen). Saw many other castles along the Mosel and Neckar Rivers including the one at Heidelberg (lived there for 3 years) and of course Neuschwanstein Castle down south. Great scenery !! Unlimited amount of stuff to see.

Excellent Photos, Would be great if we could get a group of Marauders there so she could get some great shots of our cars. It sure looks like she as the correct skills with the camera. I'm with Bluerauder and daddyusmaximus as I was at Spangdahlem '78 - '81. Well at least when I was not temporarily placed in several other countries, go figure. Again GREAT SHOTS of your Marauder.

Thank you for the kind words guys!

Bluerauder, I have family down in Heidelberg and I really love the area around there but unfortunately it is very expensive to live there since Heidelberg ranks among the top ten wealthiest cities of Germany. Up here where I am in central Germany I personally find it pretty dull, there are much nicer parts of the country and you don't miss out if you haven't seen it.

Shornaday, if you have a look into the European Marauders subforum I'm currently in the process of setting up a European Marauderville in Cologne towards the end of this summer so hopefully we can get a good number of Marauders together for some great shots. Last years turnout was only 3 cars as you can see in my signature so hopefully this year we can at least double it.
