We came out of Biaggi's after a nice dinner and I said to my wife "Oh look, a Marauder"! As I got closer I was shocked with what I saw. Very sad that this owner cares so little......
Sandpaper, black primer and a little elbow grease is pretty cheap. The entire car looked tired and very abused.

I've seen a couple heavily neglected around here in the past but nothing like that.

Mostly scuffed and scratched beyond your wildest thoughts, rims look almost like dull spares they are so scuffed up, interior littered with garbage, ETC

I never give it a second thought of trying to meet them. I just speed off.

Ya when I see them in very poor condition I leave a note on it asking if they want to sell it. Obviously they give two craps about it

How does that happen? It looks as if he rode a couple hundred miles behind a gravel truck. A sunroof car too. Very sad.

I think the earlier 03 cars went thru a batch of poor primer and also poor clearcoat which basically popped blisters

Mines starting to blister, but my god this is the worst I've seen in my life

Maybe this person just bought it, and the last owner was a a hole

This is wrong on so many levels. Although I have met a few Marauder owners who had inherited the car from their grandfather or uncle and didn't know what they had. When I tried to explain it to them, they just give me a blank stare.

I remember waiting so long to find a Marauder and to see one like this...

This all stems from Ford's **** quality paint on these cars. The real shame is no body shop will want to invest their time to try to repair that roof when it has cancer that bad.. It looks like it will need a transplant from a vic.

The blisters are caused by cleaning solvent that is used to clean the spray equipment lines that wasn't cleaned out itself. My car still has some blisters on the drivers door, drivers side passenger door and rear DS quarter panel. The rest has been repaired. Never had any at all on the passenger side fender, doors, rear quarter, trunk or rear bumper. Different spray gun on the line I guess.

If it's a true "factory moon roof" car then it's an '04 which wasn't affected by the bad paint... only '03's were affected and there was no "factory moon roof " option in '03.

While I hate to see a car get or stay in that condition.... it is possible that the owner did just buy it, and is now low on funds. The next hurdle is saving up to strip and repaint the car... not a cheap adventure.

I purchased a Fox body Mustang several years ago with a similar paint issue, also caused by a bad factory procedure and materials. I sanded and stripped the car to bare metal. I primed it, wet sanded and primed again. A professional paint job (in Wild Strawberry) came next. In the hands of a super body shop, the finished car looked great. When I sold the car, I made back my money several times over, because I did much of the prep work myself (free labor).

I see that Marauder at least once a week In the Elgin area. It's drivin by a guy in his 30's I would say. And by what Fastblackmerc says about the 04 paint being better is not all true. My 04 has the same problem but not as bad cause my car is waxed 2 times a year and stays in a garage all the time. But still has some blisters and I'm sure it would be worse if I dident take care of it.

Mine had some blistering. I took to several shops who shy'd away from wanting to work on it..mainly because they wouldn't be able to warranty the work. And mine was nowhere near as bad as this one.

Took it to a resto shop nearby and they charged me a third of what the others wanted, has been holding up now for years. I will polish and wax next weekend.

Interesting. We should go have a "talk" with him. lol

Bradley's 04 had it bad too, leading him to pay for a full respray. My 1994 Probe GT had the same damn thing as well. It looks like Ford just refuses to paint cars correctly.

Most of the time a shops only consideration is what is going to bring in the most $$ for the least work and best profit margin.

I don't begrudge anybody earning a living, but if someone cares about their car and will pay to fix it right you would think a quality shop would be willing to do the work.

I thought mine looked bad!

Local paint place told me $800 to just do the roof, so its easier said than done!

Hello I am an auto paint tech that is willing to handle this problem for you. I am but I'm in Florida. I just bough an 03 Marauder and it has a rod knock. My buddy has one and I noticed the paint has small crack in it. Which in cause let moisture go under the paint and cause rust. I'm willing to paint your car in exchange for help with my motor.:coolman:

Needs to be striped down to bara metal cleaned with metal conditioner, etch prime, prime, base and clear. I'll do it for 600 just cause we are Marauders. Need a real paint job call Top Gun. I will make your car look like I melted a peace of plexiglass all over it. High Deff reflection guaranteed .

:) Thanks for the offer. I actually had a shop by me do it a couple years back though. Best of luck with the motor work.

I feel like mine almost looks like that. It's a June 02 build with the crappy paint. I've had my hood repainted (twice) along with the rub strips, the front bumper and nose pieces. The deck lid and roof need painting now. Left as they are, they would probably look like that car eventually. This car certainly inspires a love/hate relationship.

Now that it sat in that used car lot for a couple years , it has a couple boo boo's and the trunk lid needs wet sanded and buffed.
I saw some pics of my car, right after it got painted in 2012, the other day.
Now I see how bad it needs some buffing and polishing.

My car has been blistering on the roof for awhile now. Thankfully I should be able to rectify that this year. I certainly don't want it to end up looking like that poor car.

I wonder if it would be cheaper to just replace the hood and trunk lid with new ones. Not much you can do about the roof other than sand it down.

The roof skin can be replaced, Pat had his done when his sunroof drains rotted out. It was $3500 a few years ago.

Given that new parts are still available (the hood at least) this makes a lot of sense unless you're providing "free" labor to strip, etch, etc.

My June of '02 never blistered but it has spent pretty much every day garaged and protected since I bought it used in '04.

The weather beats the crap out of paint..

Too late for the recall?
My 2003's Hood, Roof and Deck were all repainted by Ford. Lucky me!
Would anyone like to contribute monies to have it repainted?????

Mine is 06/02 as well. You lucked out. :)

I believe solvent in the paint will blister whether garaged or not.

My remaining blisters will be fixed in the next year or 2. God willing....

Boy, makes me feel real good about my Marauder! lol

Makes me sad for parting out a wrecked marauder that just needed a front clip!

But a bunch of folks here benefited from it, I'll still sleep at night :)
