Can anyone say what the best possible speakers to install
on the MM are? Needless to say, the Alpine Audiophile ain't
audiophile (I will be mailing the paper speaker back to Ford in
protest)...in fact my 1992 Grand Marquis JBL speakers were
wayyyyyyyyyy better.
I am not interested in loud or BOOM BOOM bass, but I want
accurate, musical fidelity...Can we say TUBE AMPLIFIERS and
ELECTROSTATIC SPEAKERS boys and girls?
So far the Boston Acoustics Z-Series is the best I have found...
They are $1000/pair retail and don't sound like they are worth it.

additional amp or no amp?
I went thru 5 different brands of speakers b4 I decided on Memphis audio 5x7's in the front and DEI s680 for the rear combined with a Soundstream Davinci 5 channel amp and an Infinity Perfect 10 sub mounted to the rear deck. I too do not feel the need to heard down the street I want clarity clarity clarity.
Speakers I tried and didn't like:
Audiobahn
Alpine Type R
MB Quart 6x8's
Polk Momo's
Kenwood Excelon(no flames here please, they sounded good without the amp but I didn't care for them after the amp)
Jl Audio
Rockford Fosgate
I Have had that dang rear seat out more times than I can remember. BTW if u grease the seatbelt anchors those cursed crimped nuts come off alot easier.
If I had to it over again I would probably expand the rear deck holes and go with 6 x 9's. The rear deck is a horrible spot for 5x7/6x8 speakers
For the record and to avoid any controversy, All of the above speakers were good quality and very fine speakers in their own right. Speaker auditions are totally subjective to individual tastes.

That's good advice but I am far to traumatized to ever go back in there again.:bigcry:

I have the JL Audio XR570-Csi's in the doors and XR570-Cxi's in the rear deck.
Sounds great to me and everyone that has ridden in the car loves em sofar.
Expencive but worth every penny :)
Great customer service too!
Speakers have alot to do with personal taste though...

There is only one "best" speaker, and that's the speaker that sounds the best to you. Price and brand are almost irrelevant. I replaced mine with the Infinity 5752cf which were something like $79.95/pair and I couldn't be happier. Sure the neighbour's Honda Civic with the 600 Watt subwoofer and 1200W 32-speaker surround system might play a little LOUDER...but then again, I didn't pay more for my stereo than the car is worth, like he did...
One suggestion: go to a few MM meets and ask to listen to their stereos until you find one that sounds the way you want it...Walla!...there's your "best".

Some people will refer to the train and untrained ear.
RF, you should get some JL Audio W7 subs, 2 12" with 500-700watts on them, I heard one with 2/3rds of a voice coil fried and it was just amazing in such a big room with over half of it broken. I was astounded. You could get those and blow that little kid from the street to the dirt:lol:

The thing has a linear excursion of 1.15 inches...

They will blow a hole in your wallett too :)
I would love to have one of those in my trunk!
I might be going with the W6.....

to a car stereo/electronics repair shop and actually by-passed
the internal head unit amplifier and come out with two line level
outputs...
TRUST ME...this is the ONLY way to get great sound when adding
on an external amplifier...
Also, are there any extremely efficient speakers that could make use
of the head units current output?
P.S. I was serious about electrostatic speakers, but I assume noone makes them for cars...the Mark Levinson system must be great...perhaps McIntosh makes car stereo?...I guess I am so starved for high fidelity that price is no object.
P.S. II Once again, know that I am seeking fidelity (a MUCH overused term)...pure musicality...and I have NO NEED for the BOOM BOOM bass or the world's loudest speakers

I'd answer yes, that McIntosh does make car audio equitment. Infiniti is great for clarity IMO.

well if you want fidelity and money is no object then go get a refrence line
from rainbow. thier cs 260.30 2-way components are only $5,400.
they dont seem to make thier 360.30 any more but those used to retail
for ~$9,000

LOC4.4 - 4-channel version of the LOC4.2 shown above
In answer to many requests, we are proud to offer a 4-channel version of the LOC4.2. With the same high quality components and high performance, this is the ultimate 4-channel line output converter.
Part# LOC4.4
Soundstream Tarantula components are 3 ohm and 94db spl 1w/1mtr
Soundstream SPL components are 2 ohm and 94db spl 1w/1mtr
neither are made anymore but both are available on Ebay if you watch for them. Don't think I'd try the factory head unit with the SPl's a 2 ohm load might fry it but the tarantula model at 3 ohm probably wouldn't hurt it. Both models were produced prior to the power acoustik buy out and subsequent junk products.
