How are the factory hp & TQ ratings made? Rear Wheel or Flywheel? I had a high pressure salesman try to tell me that all Fords are rated as rear wheel hp/TQ. So what's the REAL skinny?
BTW: Was lookin' at a red '04.

All H/P and TQ ratings for the MM are at the flywheel, unless they can prove it on a dyno :)

Flywheel, and even then... not every engine is tested to make sure it develops that amount before installation.
Walk away from this high pressure salesman and look elsewhere.

Walk away from this high pressure salesman and look elsewhere.
In a sonorus and blaring southern-style preacing voice:
"Walk AWAY from this high-pressure sales-man and luke ELSEwhere!"

Actually, don't walk away from that dealership, but RUN! That is one of the biggest pots of bull i've ever heard of from a dealership. Find another dealership where they'll respect you. I can't honestly understand why dealers say things like that..........
If these cars are supposed to get over 300 HP at the rear wheels, then everyone on this site got cheated when we bought our cars new and only got around 240. I agree, this guy is either feeding you a big line of bull, or he is totally ignorant himself. Either way you don't want to be dealing with him.

It took me a few grand to get over 300 RWHP
The more I think about it, Ford should have spent more dough in development on this car..if it came out of the box with 300 RWHP.. it would have been a huge hit.. as it is, it got poor reviews.
I remember my Ford product development finance days though, and know why they did not hit this one out of the park..

Ask the salesman how FORD rates their salespeople.
By how much BRAINS they have or how much BS they spew ?

just curious, if our cars have 300 at the flywheel,,what does that work out to when it hits the street?

tbore-- this is just my understanding, but I think a general figure is that you lose roughly 20% of your power from the flywheel to the back wheels. That works out to roughly 240 RWHP from the factory.

thats not bad, with the average car, 240 is at the flywheel

I say you go back to the dealership, arm yourself with knowledge, and make a fool of him in front of the manager.

I agree with Tmac because then that way the manager will want your business and be willing to make a deal 98.9% of the time. I hate dealing with some sales people but I wouldn't run away if he cut me a good deal. If he told me it had 400HP and cut me an awesome deal I would take it. Point is, make an ass out of him and see what kind of deal you can get on that 04 DTR.
