Spartan Locker

Hi Guys

I did a search but could find no info concerning the Spartan Locker by USA Standard Gear (http://www.usastandardgear.com/productdetails.aspx?ProdID=101 69) and was wondering if any of you performance/race gurus out there had any opinions good or bad on this differential upgrade?

A couple of concerns I have are

1 How noisy are these things?
2 I am guessing you can fit your axle shafts and C clips to the side couplers before fitting the drivers and cross pin, can you? (I think the picture above is labelled incorrectly)
3 Are this type of differential suitable for daily driver use?

That's not what you want , get a Auburn pro series diff, or an Eaton diff , lockers can be noisy, and have a harsh click/bang when it engages.

Eaton unit with 31 spline axles in my car, I'm very satisfied with it. I second what Motown suggests.

Going with a locker type rear isn't recommended for the street. The locker defeats the purpose of the standard type rear ie. allowing each rear wheel to turn at different speeds when going around a corner.

Guys that style locker only makes noise when it releases when you go around a corner

That design is just like powertrax, and they do make a lot of noise when you do a sharp turn, been there and don't like it

I would go with a type that you can rebuild in the future

1 How noisy are these things? -- Totally silent until your turning, then they pop upon disengagement and click until the axle speeds match again. Very noisy. I've pulled into parking lots and make a sharp turn into a spot and when it unlocks its loud. People look over to see what broke, lol.

--That picture shows a non C clip type locker.

3 Are this type of differential suitable for daily driver use?--- Yes and no, I have them in the front and rear of my Jeep, doesn't bother me as its a jeep. I would not install them in any type of hot rod vehicle, I cant see it lasting on the street with more that 300hp.

If you like going thru the twisties, don't get a locker.

The noise level of a detroit locker is not bad but, the abruptness of it is very noticeable. And like I said before not good for taking turns at speed. when it unlocks the car turns in abruptly and when you put the power down coming out of a turn it abruptly straightens the car out.
