View Full Version : License plate light
Does your license plate illumination light work? It's not something we think about unless a state inspection points it out, or an LEO gets behind you and wants an excuse to pull you over.
Mine was burned out.
Any FLAPS, less than $5.00, can supply the bulb.
Happy motoring knowing that you are in strict compliance.

Yep.
The surround the socket was pretty burnt up in mine, had to reshape, threw an LED in it and sealed it up with some RTV. That was like 7-8 years ago. lol

Search "LED license plate bulb" on eBay and take your pick. Dirt cheap.

Does your license plate illumination light work? It's not something we think about unless a state inspection points it out, or an LEO gets behind you and wants an excuse to pull you over. I make sure to check that, my two daughters and I have each been pulled over for that. It's after midnight, maybe drinking, just a reason to stop you. I have read about OHIO making many a big drug busts that started that way, especially on the turnpike.
On a different note, got pulled over this week in NJ. LEO stated that my MARAUDER license plate frame was covering the state name on plate. Does OH allow that? IDK, I've never been stopped, maybe OH just recognizes their own plate and never stopped me? I didn't think that the OHIO was covered, but I know not to argue with him. He goes back and checks the plate again, asks me my age, and says to wait a few minutes, he will toot his horn, when I can go after he writes his report. OK, gets to the hotel, saw a handprint on the edge of the trunk, remembered the LEO. Realized that OHIO is in the upper center of the plate, right above the plate number. Bet he felt like a doofus, when he realized it wasn't under the frame and so obvious! :D:D

One very good upgrade IMO.
Another is LED back up lights if you have dark windows. HUGE difference!

What is the part # for the bulb?
I have used these for the LED (#194) License Plate Bulb and they work well:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sylvania-Premium-Led-White-6000K-T10-194-168-2825-Two-Bulbs-Upgrade-Light-Lamp-/141885730277?hash=item21090c6d e5:g:YicAAOSwqYBWpVyJ&vxp=mtr
And these for the LED (#3156) Reverse Tail Lamps:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sylvania-Premium-Led-White-6000K-3156-T25-Two-Bulbs-Upgrade-Replacement-Light-/131710083287?hash=item1eaa8860 d7:g:Ds0AAOSwOVpXeccS&vxp=mtr
Both are a nice LED upgrade and you can also find them at Pep Boys, NAPA, C.A.P., Autozone, Advanced Auto Parts, etc.

The socket for mine melted a few years back and I got it replaced. And just recently I put in a damned bright LED into it I purchased from Limited360. Don't think I'll ever have to worry about getting nailed for a poorly visible rear plate at night.
