I know I will get flamed for this but I think it is added theft protection for cheap $ :D
I used the VINGUARD system on my Marauder .:)
I think it will help against a Re VIN and more parts to trace if parted if stolen.

Why would you get flamed? Lots of people have been doing this for years...

Like a lot of things, this probably doesn't help, but it can't hurt, either. For $30, if you like it, go for it ! :)
Personally, the VIN etch has been a pet peeve of mine for years. A lot of dealers don't sell it, they automatically etch it into the windshield of every car they touch and then tack some HUGE goofy charge ($100 +) onto the final price. ( - including used cars and trade-ins that already had it when they got them.)
Car thieves don't check this stuff before they take a car - they just take the car and notice it later when they're parting it out. It doesn't "deter" anything. At most, it's one little item that they can't make as much on. Wow, I made them make a few bucks less from my car. Yay.
I absolutely refuse to pay for it, and if its already on the car (as usual) I make them take it off the bill. ( - Like the "document prep fee" - I'm not paying a separate, additional fee for them to type up my bill and print it the **** up. Rip-offs like these are why buying a car is such an ordeal.)

Yep....Hence the term "Stealerships"....
I always liked the 'ADP' that they add on to the most desirable cars.

What kind of PROTECTION does vin etching provide for theft?
None!
What does it do for you once your car is found after you settle with insurance?
ZIP!
LOL.
I would rather see you use UV black light invisible vin numbers, at least they won't SEE it
100% positive ID. No doubt about it especially if you decide to hunt it down. In Brooklyn I watched a neighbor's Tahoe get the VIN written down. I reported it to the local police but they laughed until 12 hours later they robbed the car on camera. When asked to ID the two men I declined. Even my neighbor didn't care cause all he wanted was the insurance money! When you come to take my Marauder I am not worried about insurance money. :flamer:
