All, this may have been in discussion in the past however I felt it would be helpful for those that are not gearheads. Perhaps others would like to chime in with their experience or knowledge on subject. I think this would really apply in colder climates, but has it's place in warmer climate as well.

Here's Why You Should Switch to Synthetic Motor Oil Immediately, It's all about viscosity.
http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/buying-maintenance/videos/a29851/heres-why-you-should-switch-to-synthetic-motor-oil-immediately/
Also explained on YouTube, Thankfully by Engineering Explained's Jason Fenske is here to help demystify the difference between conventional and synthetic motor oil, with a simple visual explanation that's so brilliant, you'll learn something even if you already know all the ins and outs of synthetic oil.

Wheeeee, another oil thread...
Here's what it boils down to...the car was spec'd for Motorcraft 5W-20 semi-synthetic. You can use any semi- or full synthetic you want, just use a viscosity and change interval that are appropriate for your driving conditions.

By your comment, It appears you did not watch the video.
I followed 5W -20 religiously, until now , I have a rebuilt Cobra motor.
The guy who did it recommended, 5W-40 full synthetic.
I just got my break in oil (conventional dino) 10W-30 changed and went with the closest viscosity that they had 0W40 full Synthetic.

Low viscosity oils are just for fleet fuel mileage requirements. My Mazda6 specs 0w20 for the USA and 5w30 for Mexico. Same exact Skyactiv 4 cylinder engine. Hmmm. I think I get it.

By your comment, It appears you did not watch the video.I didn't need to watch the video. There is absolutely nothing wrong with 5W-20. You apparently didn't see MY comment where I said to use a viscosity appropriate for the driving conditions. For most people 5W-20 is fine...for an engine under a lot of stress, then 5W-30 is probably a better choice.

5w40 synthetic for me, I don't follow CAFE regulations..

The one thing I was trying to point out is the effect cold weather has on the viscosity.
Of course probably the wrong time of year to bring up cold weather unless you are at one of the poles North/South... The video was showing the difference between Conventional and Synthetic at (Correction) the oil was chilled to -35 degrees Celsius.

Engine oil and filter recommendations Look for this certification trademark.
Use SAE 5W-20 engine oil. Only use oils “Certified For Gasoline Engines” by the American Petroleum Institute (API). To protect your engine’s warranty use Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 or an equivalent 5W-20 oil meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153–H. SAE 5W-20 oil provides optimum fuel economy and durability performance meeting all requirements for your vehicle’s engine. Do not use supplemental engine oil additives, cleaners or other engine treatments. They are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage that is not covered by Ford warranty. Change your engine oil according to the appropriate schedule listed in the scheduled maintenance guide. Ford production and aftermarket (Motorcraft) oil filters are designed for added engine protection and long life. If a replacement oil filter is used that does not meet Ford material and design specifications, start-up engine noises or knock may be experienced. It is recommended you use the appropriate Motorcraft oil filter (or another brand meeting Ford specifications) for your engine application.
DO NOT USE ANY OIL THAT DOES NOT MEET THESE RATINGS
Just check it, change it, use a good oil and filter and most important never let it run low!

Exactly. Not sure why every forum everyone thinks they need to school everyone else into what they do is the best. All it does is start a battle
Heck, 90% of the folks here don't even change their own oil
If it's -31 degree Fahrenheit I doubt I'll be driving my marauder hard in that type of weather

For what it is worth, here is how I treat my cars. Since I race all of my Mustangs, and yes, even the '04 Silver Birch, I use full synthetic. I also have over sized oil pans for that extra volume of oil, and a high volume oil pump. I also have oil coolers on the raced cars.
When I open the Mustang engine for inspection every few years, there is no sign of wear. That convinced me to use full synthetic in all of my cars: street driven daily drivers and race driven show cars.
Oil is always cheaper than a new engine.

I'm still using Motorcraft 5W20 and after 2,000+ miles and several of months it still looks like I changed it last week and full as can be.
That's also what was used in my old engine until I removed it at 92,000 in absolutely perfect shiny condition.

Hey, why sideswipe me? I was just sitting here reading the thread! Disposal of the used oil is an issue where I live. I remember my dad used to pour it at the base of power/telephone poles in Oklahoma, shouldn't do that! I take my own filter and case of synthetic with me and pay the minimum sale price. Prices for the oil change have gotten so cheap, I get a bottle of water, a cup of decent coffee, my oil and filter changed, (I don't let the wash the Windows or vacuum as car is spotless and they'd only get it dirty) and disposal of the oil for only $19 to $24.95.
Meanie pants.

A synthetic change is $99 at most places these days. I can do it myself for $33 all in and get a case of beer, a pack of smokes, a tbone steak, and a back rub with the change left over.

Ask the place where you buy your oil if they will take it back for recycling
Last place I worked at, they paid us for waste oil...
Glad I live in the middle,. Everything here is easy

Pretty simple really.
Quality oil and frequent changes equals ******ing spotless.
