Hello, help needed, my steering is very hard, motor running, when sitting still, hard left and right turns. I had a new steering pump. installed. All the suspension has been checked and some parts there were repaired (Bushings)that were thought to be causing the issue. Is it possible the outside pulley might have a bad Bering. There are no leaks since the Pump was replaced. any help would be appreciated Steve

Mine has been like that since I bought it, pretty sure it's the variable assist unit, I havery had no luck removing mine. A new rack with new VAPS built in is available, around $375.

Could be the VAPS solenoid or the u-joint in the shaft.

Thanks to you all. The Pump is being replaced. Seems that is the problem. One was installed and it is now defective and is being replaced under warranty. Thanks to all of you. Steve

Did the pump give you any signs it was bad? Could you see it moving fluid if you looked into it? Was it noisy?

Hi no the pump was not making any noise. The mechanic said today that it was not making any pressure. All the fluid was going thru it though. They are replacing it, under warranty. thanks

I've always assumed my was the VAPS due to the pump not making any odd noises, may try a new pump as well. Glad you got it figured out.

Mine was doing the same thing. It was the pressure switch.

How did you resolve it? You mean the VAPS unit on the rack?

I took it to a shop. It must gave off a code.
