View Full Version : A tune and a gear swap...

Just looking to add some street cred to the Marauder and still call it stock even if it isn't. No one else will know, right?

Installing the tune is something I know I can do, it's the gear swap that worries me. I've dabbled in shade tree mechanics, even rebuilt a '75 Yamaha XS650 from the frame up took me a while but I got it done.

Is it worth the labor charges to pay a shop to do it? Is this something I can do in a day? I sure would hate to run in to problems and have the car sitting for weeks.

Any advice from people that have done it themselves would be great.

Any ballpark prices on having a reputable shop doing it would be great too.

Thanks!

i dont recommend doing yourself. preload and backlash are very important. $350-$400+ labor plus parts.

^^^what RCR said^^^

If you've no experience in setting up a rear end, then you prolly don't have the right tools, either. Leave it to a pro.

Break the dowel pin, 60.00 tool

Tear it all apart, buy a mic, buy all the parts,... Find out the stock rear needs parts. Up to a grand

You can do it if it's NOT a Daily Driver

Literally just set the lash and it's just what every other guy does

They started not knowing how to do it at some point

Bring the car to us. We will do it and the tune all at once.

What ya talkin about?!?

You're only a few hours away!

Heck, folks drive all kinds on miles to go to Marty's!

I drove from (indirectly) Wisconsin.

WPG Merc drove 6,000,000,000,000,000 miles from Canada (2 or 3 times!).

Just 2 examples of many! and you are complaining about a few meezly hours... :shake: Tsk, tsk...

Seriously thinking about it. Just got to convince the wife to let me spend the money. She's not liking the car as much as I am. A/C blows only on high and it "dries out her contacts" waaaaaa!:argue:

Closed one of her vents and she was fine. I need to get it fixed. PM'd FastBlackMerc about a repair.

Soldered the compass circuit board today and it worked. Might try my hand at the AC fan repair.

The blower fan relay assy is fairly cheap at Rock auto
