While driving up the left coast Saturday, Put down the pedal to
pass a few slow cars, the transmission made a noise and then shifted.
When I parked the car, I found out I lost reverse.
I assume the reverse band snapped and that was the noise I heard.
Car drove home with no problems except for no reverse.
Well, I just hit 198,000. Car needs new plugs, a Coolant Flush and now
a transmission.

Ouch.
At least you were able to make it home. I once broke the transmission in my work van in a snow bank at the end of my driveway, blocking the street. That was embarrassing.

fairly common for the cast reverse band to break, I usually see it happen on F/E-150 trucks.

So after tearing apart the transmission, the rear band servo failed
resulting in reverse not engaging.
Replaced all internals including pump and torque converter.
Total was $1697.
Shift seem to be a little "loud" to start.
We'll see if it smooths out after it gets a few miles under her belt.

A bearing gave up in mine and shot through the entire transmission, destroying everything. My best friend kept grilling me for destroying my trans at 126xxx miles, so imagine my surprise the other morning when he called and said his trans died in his Marauder. He lost all forward gears & barely had reverse. It was like it wouldn't engage at all.

While driving last weekend, I lost Overdrive and 3rd gear.
After taking it back to the transmission shop, he said I broke
the intermediate shaft. Had to order the part from the dealer.
Should be fixed by Monday.

The rubber seal around the servo was loose and had a lot of play in it.

A week later I take it back to the shop after losing third and overdrive.
I've attached a picture of shaft that snapped.
Also the other piece that was bent.

I had one stub shaft bend and another one (a discontinued part) snap, clean in 2. Then I got a hardened one which wore into my non-hardened direct drum. It just works its' way down to the weakest link.

Just a mild tune and a Cold air kit.
Transmission is now performing perfectly.
He also added the J-Mod to firm up the shifts.
Ouch.

Yeah, but the people who had to back up, turn around, and drive in the other entrance weren't too happy with Comcast for blocking the street for the 2 hours it took the flatbed to get there.
