Just returned from local dealer and found out replacement part will not be available until 2017. Recall notice received in January seven months ago. Ford has not manufactured the improved LMC as of today. Ford customer service said if you have a problem with current LMC they will replace it with one off the self, but you will need to return to get the new improved "recall replacement " in 2017.
Really does it take a year to make improved parts ? Doesn't speak very well of customer service.
I'm glad you wrote this, as I was going to call the Ford number at the end of the week asking if they forgot about me.
I could not agree with you more, seems WAY too long for a replacement to be produced. Mine is still working but the question remains, "for how much longer?"

I had my LCM replaced recently due to the 2nd failure.
If you read the recall notice, if they replace it now, they will not
replace it again under the recall. They will consider the recall fulfilled.
I had a long discussion with the dealer regarding this.
He said "don't worry", We'll replace it again with the correct "e" part
when it becomes available.
The car is 13 years old.
You are armed with the knowledge of repairing it far better than Ford will.
Or sending it out for a small fee....
Hardly any reason to be upset.

I imagine that it takes time to redesign a part and get thousands of them into production.

I just received notification that the repair parts are now available to repair my vehicle.
I thought I read something about them adding a piece on instead of putting the proper unit back in...?
Mine will go out for repair here.

Had mine done last week. They install a new relay box with about 3 ft of wire that they mount on the left side near the parking brake.

Can you post of send me pictures of it?

Sorry, didn't get a picture. Small black molded box about 8x4x3 ish. White resin lid, doesn't look like it will come apart. Two wire looms in black plastic wire wraps. He said one loom had one additional wire.
Sorry I don't have more.

I received my LCM notice yesterday in the mail. I'll get it scheduled soon and see if I can snap some pics of the part and the install.

I'm curious as to what they are doing if they aren't replacing the LCM.

They're bypassing the internal relays with an external remotely mounted relay box from what I see.
I tossed all 3 of my letters in the trash

Jim, should we stick with your repair or go in for this replacement?

That is up to you........
Personally I'd be leery of trusting a dealership tech with rewiring some external relay panel into my MM. There have been reports of more problems after the "work" has been done. Remember once you have this recall performed Ford will no longer do any other work related to the LCM.

If you submit repair reimbursement do it direct with Ford. I am convinced the Dealer stole my reimbursement.

Seems like a half-assed repair to me. More points of failure.

I just got my letter, using the term 'by-pass' to describe what the dealer will do. Also, they say parts are now ready. I can hardly wait.

Got my letter yesterday, too. Will not be doing the recall, I'd rather take care of it myself if/when it happens. I've got too much aftermarket stereo stuff going on under the dash that I don't need some Ford tech messing things up.

As a Ford tech who has installed one of these kits(and seen other techs botch the job) - I would not let any dealership do it to my car - good thing I was able to get all my cars' LCMs replaced under the previous recall.
