Hello
So after doing research I understand the marauder shared its exact motor with the aviator and auto mach 1's. I have picked up a project with a spun bearing and has been sitting for who knows how long. My question is, does the mark 8 shortblock(with its original rotating assembly) provide an acceptable compression ratio with the marauders heads. The reason I am asking is just for price and availability of the mark long blocks I find for sale versus the exact motor in our cars. I understand this is not necessarily the best route to go about getting the car back on the road but I am purely curious before I commit to a full rebuild of it's current motor or source a low mileage duplicate. Any helpful info/comments are appreciated.

p.s. also curious about the 4.6 3v shortblock

Thanks!

I used a stock 09 4.6 3v with a ported trilogy and headers.

413hp at 9.5 lbs of boost don't recall tq

Interesting. Thanks for the input.
Basically my goal is if possible with suitable replacement that is naturally aspirated, find a short block and swap over the heads, intake, accessories etc. and be on my way. I know pretty much everything is interchangeable among the 4.6s but I know I can not put an originally 4.6 2v shortblock in there and expect it to run great.

You should have the heads freshened up

Probably a smart idea to have the heads done.
So any input from anyone as far as compression goes with the 4.6 3v and mark viii shortblocks?

You will gain a lot more compression since the mark8 have flat top pistons, this will get you a few more horses. Also the casting on the teksid block is known for being a lot more stronger design than the WAP 2nd Gen on the marauder. But don't take my word this is as far as I have read from respectable people.

The highest compression ratio in a mark 8 was 9.9:1

Agree as far as technical advice. Too many sit back and wait to slam an answer they disagree with. I try to speak only to my experiences when it comes to these matters. People can take it for what it's worth or simply ignore. :2thumbs:

I "feel" you Tumbler 33!

I, too, am curious about the use of a Mark VIII short block with our Marauder heads and accessories. As noted they are a LOT cheaper and there are more available.

I am one of those folks who like to have an "extra" engine ready for all of my cars, if possible (or at last an extra short block). Since I already have several "toys" that satisfy my need for speed, my 2003 Marauder is my daily driver and is completely stock to the best of my knowledge. An "Old School" kind of guy, I am pretty clueless about the "computer" cars.

So back to the OP's original question (or what I believe may be the inferred question), what are the pros and/or cons with utilizing a Mark VIII short block in putting together a stock replacement motor our cars?

Well I don't have a Marauder.... I don't have 03/04 heads... but what I do have is a Mk VIII block, 01 Cobra heads and cams, and 03 Marauder intake. Guy at Mo's speed shop says I should make every bit of 310.. if not more depending on everything else.

What you may run into using the Teksid block are little headaches due to sensors being in different locations and using different size bolts to secure them. For instance, my MK VIII block uses a thicker bolt to secure its knock sensor vs that of a later model 4.6.

Also the MK VIII timing cover is laid out differently than the Marauder version. So unless you toasted your original, use it. If the original isn't available, don't fret, it should work just fine, you will just have to rig it up in MK VIII fashion. Well, it will work until you decide to put a supercharger on it... then the kit parts may not fit so well.
