I put a new 700R4 in my 1970 Impala, drives as if it is a 3000+ stall torq conv. It is supposed to be a normal 1800 stall.

This has no TV cable, it is a manual control trans.

I bought it from TCI who pre-runs the trans, but not sure they use the exact torq conv that came with 'kit'.

The tech support guy says to drive it more, may have air in torq conv. No better yet!!

Thoughts??

Any GOOD trans guys near Fairfax VA??

Sounds like it's slipping a lot. How does it shift? No TV cable, is it fixed line pressure? I've seen full manual 2004r and 700r4 but despite being manual they still required a TV cable to raise line pressure based on throttle position. Want to kill one of those transmission drive it with low line pressures, you'll smoke clutches and bands in no time.

I'd get some line pressure readings ASAP!

One more thing, if I were you I'd send that unit back to tci, tell them to keep it and contact Dave Husek at Turbo Buick Performance and get him to build you a better stronger 2004r and get one of his converters. My trans from him has survived thousands of beatings in my GN and hasn't skipped a beat. You will not be disappointed.

You need a TV cable as mentioned , it will never operate properly without it , and I would have gone with a 200R4 over the 700R4 which were nothing but a headache.
