Hey guys, I'm me to this forum so I'm probably posting something that's already been discussed. I'm just not sure how to navigate the topics. But, my 04 silver MM rattles on startup like something's not engaging. It starts up and runs fine. Sometimes it doesn't rattle and other times it rattles while in driving. The noise is coming from the front of the engine... Maybe alternator area of the engine. Any idea what it is?

If it is an intermittent Clickety-Clackety-Clickety noise that only happens when the fan cycles on ... it may be a cracked ring around the inside of the fan shroud that the fan blades contact and wobble or bind up. Just had this problem fixed on Tuesday of last week with a new fan assembly.

Not directly. I believe that you must post the video to a host site like YouTube and then provide a link to the video.

Could it be a Timing Chain Tensioner Failure.
Is the noise coming from the front middle of the head.
I had that same noise on the passenger side.& found a Tensioner Failure & loose chain.

It could be the starter too
Does it stop making that noise if you start it, shut it off, and restart it?

It's random. Sometimes it rattles and sometimes it doesn't. It also rattles while driving, but sometimes it only rattles at startup. It's pretty random

I've had the starter rattle and it is not half as hair-raising as what I just heard. Look at the timing chain bud!...

I'm experiencing rattles of the undercarriage. The first item is inspected was the cross member, shocks, struts, stablizers and exhaust. When I drive over where the road is rough it's the most noticeable. I ask the dealer's mechanic in Plainfield about it and he replied not to be concerned about it. I'm the type of guy who hates any rattle and determined to locate and correct the annoyance or distraction. I've heard of converters rattling but I'll have to check them again. My last Mercury Cougar the converters rattled only when I started the engine, which I've not heard on the 03 Marauder. Any other items that I may have overlooked? Your input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Since this thread is about engine rattles, you may want to start a separate thread about your undercarriage issues.

So I see you started a thread on different engines that might swap in....
Have you taken your car to a 4 valve ford repairman? Possibly asked for a quote on chains and guides?
What part of Michigan are you in?

I had a similar noise. Turned out to be the drive belt tensioner wobbling on a worn out bearing and slowly cutting a slot in the timing chain cover... Caught it just in time. If you stare at it while it is running you will see the wobble...
