Does anyone know where to get a hardened direct drum? I can't find one. Or a good, reliable source to have one hardened?
Thanks.

I have a Freddie Brown 4STB-E that will handle over 1,000 ft lbs of tq and it has a stamped steel direct drum.

Nice!! Same!! I think he installeda 300m direct drum in mine, I will check my invoice, I know he recommended some up grades, I may have to bother you down the road 😉

Any time! (I believe there may be a 300m direct drum out there, but, it's not necessary if you have the 300m stub shaft.) I did see extra tig welds around the stamped steel direct drum. They do weld up a lot of potential week areas. Those welds are clean too! I had to disassemble mine to make sure all parts are good to go. :coolman:
I did see that Alan at Dirty Dog Performance use to have hardened Direct Drums.
TBone, WTH is going on now??? If I remember right, you've had trans nightmares since 2012 or earlier...

The teflon sealing ring on the end of the pump shaft broke. When they took the trans apart they noticed the 300m stub shaft is stretching/twisting the direct drum splines. What can I say? The car has an appetite for transmissions....It is not uncommon for the oem direct drum to twist in high hp applications according to some articles I have read. I want to install a hardened input shaft as well, just to be on the safe side.
If anyone knows why the teflon sealing ring would break I'm all ears.
Dirty Dog is not an option.
Take it to DRC like I originally suggested

contact Dan at Silver Fox transmissions. he sells a beefed up direct clutch that has a 300m center with splined snout. Its not cheap, but its available.

Apparently Freddie Brown thinks a hardened direct drum is necessary in high hp applications because he makes them....
