View Full Version : New guy saying hello

I just finished purchasing a brand new 2003 Marauder (well, actually, I take possession on Wednesday), and just wanted to say hello!
I was a "Chevy guy" before, and still have an 80 Z28, as a long-term project. But I test-drove a 2001 Lightning, when it first came out, and was quickly swayed over to the blue oval.
I absolutely fell in love with the Marauder, from the first time I saw it, but I think Ford was off-target, with the sticker price. There are too many high-end lux options, at/below MSRP, which would sway a lot of people away. That is what kept me from buying one, before. Instead, I opted to pick up a low mileage '95 Mercury Cougar V8 (previous owner is family), to act as my daily driver.
A little while ago, I changed the transmission fluid, and noticed metal shavings in the pan, and decided it was time for something new, with a warranty, and this improves on every thing I liked, and seems to address everything I didn’t like.
I couldn't find anything else I liked, that was even close to the price (would only consider something new). The next closest was the '04 Impala SS, which stickers for a couple thousand over my total price, and I'd have to live with the FWD). So, RWD V8 with decent power, leather, fully loaded, 4 doors (instead of two), and enough room to seat my 6'6" frame, very comfortably.
I think I got a pretty good deal on the car, which was not a demo, has >150 miles on it, and 50 of them were from me.
All funds Canadian:
Sticker is $48,000 - X-Plan is $45,000 - A-Plan is $43,277
I talked them down to $33,000 ($23,000 US), less the trade in, plus taxes, etc. All said and done, it totals $37,000 ($25,900 US).
I can't wait to take possession, and look forward to enjoying this car, for a long period of time! Now, to figure out what my plate should be...

QWK SVT,
Welcome to the site. :banana2:
There are lots of good folks here who can answer just about any question you might have on the Marauder. Get ready for a permanent grin on your face ... driving the MM is a great experience every day. $23K sounds about in the right ballpark for an '03 MM with about 150 miles. I have heard $21K for some with higher miles. Only 4 more days 'til Wednesday.

I can't wait to take possession, and look forward to enjoying this car, for a long period of time! Now, to figure out what my plate should be...I've had my 300A for two years. I was one of those guys that wanted the car so bad I was willing to pay 5k more for it than I knew it should be selling for. But, I bought it as a company car, so I laugh a the taxman every time I take it down the drag strip. Mine was number 260 off the assembley line, and has 10 mils of paint all around. I haven't had any of the troubles some of these folks have had on quality issues. Just lucky I guess.
Welcome aboard. You have a GREAT car!

Thank you Patrick. There is only so much this car can do, and I think that telling people that it CAN run 11's is not telling them how much that COSTS. You want to run this car? Stock good times are what Marty has posted;they are exceptional. You want better, be prepared to pay for it. It will cost you, for this detail, about $2,000.00 for every second under 15. If anyone out there wants to debate this, I'm up for it! :banana2: :banana2:

Another Canuck... welcome aboard! Be aware there is a Maple Leaf section on here, where we can discuss at leisure our secret plans that we don't wish our southern neighbors to be aware of.
:coolman:
When I first read the $43277 price, I nearly flipped... I paid about that last year (end of March 2003) just at the point where local dealers were starting to realize that the car wasn't going to move, considering the lack of advertisement and push from the parent company. So you did good talking them down to $33000. Real good.

Thanks all, for the greeting...
I took possession last night, and looked like this - :D, for the rest of the evening. I drove it for a couple hours, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. So did the g/f, and she can be a hard sell.
Then, I drove the g/f home, and realized (too late) that they are painting the white-dotted lines on the highway... My nice, new BLACK car was covered in not-so-nice white spots  I freaked! I spent from 11:30pm - 2:00am trying to clean it up. Normally, I'm up at 6:20 to go to work. Needless to say, I rolled into work late, but did so in a sparkling BLACK car.
