Finally got the BBK/Edelbrock twin 62mm throttle body installed and dyno tested. The tb is for a n/a Cobra '96-'01 and has to be installed upside down. Dyno tests were run before and after. Results were totally unexpected. The peak hp numbers at high rpm were virtually unchanged. The hp increased about 2-3 hp in the low rpm range. The tq increased in the peak by 6 ft-lb and in the low rpm range about 10 ft-lb. Driveability is virtually unchanged. Idles fine, takes off great just like before. I had really expected to see the differences at high rpm instead of down low.

Was the opening for the intake plenum large enough to accomadate the 62 mm throttle or did it need to be enlarged? Is the intake opening 2 round holes 57mm, 62mm, 65 mm or larger OR JUST A LARGE SINGLE OPENING. BBK makes a 65 MM throttle too. thanks for any help.

Bolted right up.
Intake has a single opening, should accomodate the Accufab single blade tb if you wanted to try that out.
Edit: this statement about the single opening may not be accurate. Gotta find out from Scott. Will post correct answer when I get it.
BBK and Edelbrock are one and the same in regards to throttle bodies, my box says BBK but if you get one from Edelbrock you get the same thing. The part number is 1705.

From TB's, I've only ever seen a usable difference from a single blade and even then, it wasn't from a power perspective, more from an improved throttle response perspective.
The stock TB's flow as much as the engine will ever need...

I agree. I'm making 455 RWHP and 402 RWTQ with the OEM TB, AND the OEM MAF in a "blow thru" setup.
It's all in the fine tuning...Works for me.

Anyone using the ford racing 96-98 cobra throttle body PART # M-9926-D464? http://www.sdpc2000.com/images/products/9282344_3966139.jpg

MY intake was NOT a single opening. Mine has 2 holes just like the throttle - same size too. I took my throttle off today and investigated.Throttle opening and intake are same size - therefor BBK 62 mm or the 65 mm throttle would not align unless you bore out the intake opening. Single blade is ridiculous because the intake has a large center post that is deep - even if you shaved it down so the blade would open the incoming air would be turbulent as it hit the flat center post.

Joe,
You are correct about the 2 holes with divider. I updated my earlier post to reflect this. Thanks for the correction. I suppose boring out the throttle ports will be part of my upcoming intake mods. I believe some shaping of the divider would drastically reduce the turbulence if anybody wanted to go with the Accufab. But I reckon the single blade wouldn't be a bolt-on since the upper intake would have to be modified.

FordNut, sure glad I checked before buying the Ford Racing single oval this morning. No returns on special orders. I'm also glad since I confirmed the intake has two 57 MM bores so the 62 mm BBK & the 65 mm BBK would be useless without boring the intake out to match.

Well, I don't think it is totally useless, since I did pick up some better torque numbers. But it will be interesting to see how much it helps to bore out the intake to match the 62mm.

I spoke to somebody today that works closely with Edlebrock, and he said if you machined the openings you will get the performance increase you seek.
I can pass on his name and number (posting his company would violate vendor rules here) if you email me.

Thanks, Donny. I have a buddy with a machine shop that is going to bore the intake out for me.
