I tried a search and didn't seem to come up with an answer so thought I'd ask it here.

I don't know if you Marauder owners experience this with stock cars but the rest of us with stock Panthers do. My dad's 98 Ford van is even worse than my car about this. When you get on it but then back off all of a sudden say mid gear, the trans hesitates to upshift for a few secs and just hangs in that same gear.

Does the Jmod take care of this problem? If it does I'd assume the springs were causing it?

Reason I ask is I've read of people saying the shifts were too harsh when the springs were removed and put them back in. Don't think that would be the case for me but just covering all bases before I do anything.

E-150/250/350? what engine? look at the VIN sticker in the drivers door jam, if the trans code is U its a 4R70W if its an E its a E4OD.

Some of that could be in the stock tune. You could be shifting, locking the converter, letting off, converter has a timeout to unlock, then back on it, then lockup,,, I can't remember the exact periods of time, but, I did a complete change in my trans tune as well as the JMod and it kicks a$$!

dont you think we should determine which transmission is in the van, before we go down that rabbit hole?

I don't know when I'll be able to get to my dad's van to see. Was mainly asking about my car.

88grandmarq is the master of the 4R70W and the J-mod, so I'm not speaking for him, but the factory shift schedule in the Marauder does suck. It upshifts way too early and you have to get pretty far into the pedal to make it downshift...all in the name of fuel economy. A tune from Marty will most certainly take care of that part, but I'm not sure if the J-mod will correct the exact condition you're speaking of.

Its a common shifting issue with the 2001 and up 4R70 transmissions. Most of this can be resolved by eliminating pressure leaks that are caused by worn factory parts. The Jmod helps, but replacing the separator plate and worn shift valves helps even more.

Same with my Vic and the 2.73s make it even worse. I've never seen how Ford's philosophy of upshifting too early makes for better mpg. It reminds me of those lights on the dash of the first American Escorts and lit up, letting you know when to shift to save gas. They came WAY too early and I don't know anyone who actually obeyed it. You'd get run over! lol

Not something I wanted to hear but if it's the truth then glad to hear it at the same time. heh

The previous owner of my car was an old man who changed all the fluids, including transmission, religiously until it went on to me at 110,000 miles. I kept this up with the oil but admit 45,000 miles down the road I need badly to do a coolant flush. The transmission fluid I know needs changing but man is it clear and red on the dipstick. I was really hoping it was in tip top shape so I wouldn't have to do anymore work before modding the drivetrain.
