My tuner has an 03 with an issue and asked if i could see if any one had this problem:
Customer came in today with an 03 Marauder, with the conventional speedo cluster. He has two problems
1) 100 % of the time both the odometer and tripometer do not work - On the early Mustangs with the non-digital odometer, there was a plastic gear set in the cluster that failed and stopped both trip and odometer from working... is there something similiar in the Marauder cluster?
2) The speedometer works 98% of the time. From time to time though it will go to zero while driving and then maybe bounce around for a bit and then continue working for miles at a time and then repeat. Today, I was able to verify that while the speedo was at zero, I still was able to read the VSS (Vehicle Speed) from my laptop, in my opinion proving that the PCM and VSS (Vehicle speed sensor) are functioning fine and that the problem lies between the output of the PCM to the cluster and the cluster itself. Seen anything on this topic that may help find the problem easier? Prior owner SUPPOSEDLY replaced the cluster with another one because the speedometer was doing the same thing to him so he tried a used cluster to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated!
