I had to replace my water pump today. It made me wonder though am I alone at using distilled to mix with the antifreeze?

Yes your alone

You have to start with brand new aluminum and steel that's not corroding or breaking down to use distilled or non mineral water. Not helping it once oxidation started

So yeah. Tap water rules for 99.9% of us

Ha! That makes me the 0.1% in something at least!

I think this is one of those things that you just do what you want and don't ask anyone because they all have their own opinion, like " Hey what kind of wax you use?"

Exactly, even if you didn't use it before It wouldn't hurt to start using now. If anything call it a placebo affect.

I agree

It's funny is humans ask questions, it could be about anything....

You give them facts and they do what they want, it's like they know what they want to do, you give them data, and they revert back to what they think is right

I guess kind of like the damage is already done but go ahead and do what makes you think is right, but the damage is done, but you know best, so sleep better at night, don't worry about it,... You cured cancer

Yes distilled. We have super hard water AND fluoride...

I've always used distilled water but the corrosion inhibitors in Antifreeze protect you anyway....cheap insurance.....overkill.....pro bably but it's not expensive and is also used in pre-mixed Antifreeze solutions!!

I use water from the dehumidifier and air conditioner. Hard water is a bummer.
I also used that water when mixing up the meth solution for the meth injection.

Distilled, it's cheap and good insurance or use a 50/50 packaged mixture.

No, you are not. I always use distilled in any car I care about. The p/u truck rust bucket with 180,000 miles gets tap. The MM & SS get distilled. Trilogy got distilled.

When paying $1,000,000,000 a gallon for antifreeze whats an extra 75 cents for a gallon of distilled.

This is actually important if you live in an area with real bad water. When I lived in McHenry the tap water was 75% rust flowing from the tap!

I always use distilled water and mix my own. My 86 truck water pump went for 20 years no problem. Radiator as clean as can be of white mineral build up. Still driving it 30 years now. Marauder flush at year five, used distilled from then on. Why take a chance with tap water or pre-mixed ? It's all about keeping coolant mineral free and the system as clean as possible.
But then again some people sell the car after a few years, problem on longer theirs. If your planning on keeping it distilled is the way to go.

Tap water contains dissolved minerals. These minerals can crystallize and clog the radiator and heater core. Which doesn't mean it will, but it can, whereas mineral-free water cannot.

So yeah, I use mineral-free water in the cooling system.

I'm not trying to be a butt head about it

But unless you bought your MM brand new and ordered it without fluids, the cancer started the day it was put together. Your not going to undo cancer by adding distilled water

It's like putting the best wax on Doms car

Distilled. Not for rust (I agree once it starts, its all downhill after that) but to keep all the crap in the water from plugging up the system. Hard water can have lots of stuff in it. Look in an old water heater and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Always Distilled. Makes for nice clean Spirits. I am biased, as I make Whiskey.
