View Full Version : PATS? Extended storage installed new battery. No crank or start

I had my Marauder in extended storage and the battery was disconnected. Turns out that battery went bad even after charging, so I replaced it with a brand new one. Initially it fired right up but ran for about 3 seconds then died. Now the red pats light is blinking rapidly and will not crank. Everything else works such as fuel pump priming, air suspension, all dash lights, radio, hvac etc.
Things I have tried:
Checking battery voltage on replacement which checks good
Tried both original keys
Using Valet key
Llocking & unlocking with fob then trying to start
The same with the other fob
Locking and unlocking with the keypad
Attempted starting in neutral
Nothing above has had any different results. I have the battery disconnected and will see if that has any results in about 10 minutes. Does anyone have any other ideas of what the issue could be or how to fix it? Would it have anything to do with the tune or the car losing memory somehow from having the battery disconnected?

Check primary cable to starter? I live in Buffalo, NY so I had to replace my starter years ago, the entire connection was rotted away. Same symptoms.
I store my Marauder from October to May and disconnect the battery. No issues.

All the wires look good and no corrosion anywhere on the car at all. It's never seen salt or even snow for that matter while I'm not in Texas right now, it's been in Houston TX since new.

I have disconnected the battery and let it sit for for over 30 minutes and reconnected it. It is doing the same thing. :mad2:

Mice rats or bunny rabbits love to eat low voltage copper wire
So check the wires on the starter while cranking. 12 volts all the time while cranking on the big one?
What do you get on the small one?
Not joking, is there a reset button hidden under the dash? Some dealers installed anti theft kits.........,,,

Actually. From what I've read, those anti theft kits with a reset, trip when the battery is unplugged

I will get out there again and check voltage. I can't seem to find my power probe around anywhere.
There isn't a reset button or any aftermarket or dealer installed anti theft items. I have known the car since it was brand new.

Do you have a tune? If so, have your tuner email you a file with the PATS function turned off. My key went bad with no notice years ago and even though my other key worked I had that crap turned off..

Yes I have an Xcal 2 Zack tune. So the key itself can just go bad? I guess that would then prevent the other keys from working also.

Replace the fuse for the PCM in the fuse box under the hood.Even if the fuse looks and tests good, replace it with a new one..I think it's F-19.It's the one under the PCM diode..Just try it.Easy enough, might work.Ask me how I know..

I will give it a shot. It would be pretty great if that was that easy or as simple as a new email tune.

No, at least not in my case as my other key worked. I just didn't want to be stranded again over a factory anti theft! If I was concerned about theft I would install something better.

Have any idea what would cause all 3 of my keys to not function? I have never even had a duplicate made etc. These are the original keys since new. The car only has 80k miles and isn't hacked up with any aftermarket stereo or security systems.

I work at a auto auction and we deal with 1000 different cars a week. It's not uncommon for a car to lose its key program with a dead battery. Happens all the time.

Try the simple things first like the fuse mentioned earlier. I can only speak from my one and only issue regarding PATS.

Checked the fuse and it looked good but replaced it anyhow. Still have nothing.

Still looking for my Power Probe so can't tell you on the voltage yet. I climbed around inside, outside, underneath, and under the hood. No signs of wildlife.
Anybody know where I can get an email tune without PATS?
Or could I do it myself with the XCAL programmer? I haven't messed with it since I uploaded my tune.

Here is a quick diagnostic you can try.
Engine does not start: LED flashes rapidly Leave ignition on until the LED starts to flash a 2 digit code: (sequence- pause-sequence)
Check the following codes:
Code flashes:
1:3 Key code not received. Is key screened by other keys or objects? Try different key: if okay then first key is faulty. If not go to main dealer
1:4 Partial code only received. Try again. If not okay use different key. If not go to main dealer
1:5 Key not programmed into PATS. Program key as above using master
1:6 Faulty link between PATS module and EECV Go to dealer.
As for turning it off, any tuner can do it. You can not do anything yourself with just an Xcal.
