Here in central Alabama (Autauga, Elmore, Montgomery counties), I discovered at least one Mercury Marauder is still being used for law enforcement. The car is the department's pursuit vehicle. I had seen it two or three times over a couple of years while going past a lot of police cars that would have had a large truck or something pulled over. I usually would recognize it too late to get a better look and be sure it was a Marauder.

But a few weeks ago, I got to meet a member of the department and asked about it. It's an '04, but he didn't give any details about any modifications had been to applied that would improve it's performance. I probably told him more about the car than he knew about it.

Since it is kind of an active undercover unit, I don't want to directly say which division. But if someone got relatively close to it, you can see the various lights mounted throughout the vehicle.

Does anyone else know other Marauders that are still in service?

Wow I am surprised. I would not think a 12 year old car would still be involved in active duty police work.

FL state troopers had like 28 that I think were donated and DR had something to do with them setting them up or something. It's somewhere in the archives

A 2003/4 sold recently on govdeals, it was posted here when the auction was live. If I remember right, it sold for around 10 grand. It was a actual chief's car and had under 65k. The car looked as nice as a former police car could look, just a few random holes in the center console and switches in the overhead console.

I would guess that there are still a few floating around, but there can't be that many left due to the age of the car.

I think that the number was 18 that were donated to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) by an anonymous donor.

Here's a link to one of the early December 2004 posts regarding the FHP (unfortunately the link in the news article is gone) >>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=14477

A little more info here in a thread by "carfixer" on his Ride-Along with FHP in May 2005 >>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18389
