I had the stereo in the Marauder rebuilt about 5 years ago.. I heard these radio's are junk....what is happening now is I hear the hum of the motor coming through the speakers. When I tap lightly on the face of the radio it stops.... then after hitting a bump it starts again. Anyone ever hear of this?

Try removing the radio and reseating the 3 connectors and the antenna. The radios aren't "junk", but there is a common solder joint issue...so far no one has revealed any more info than that about it, though...

the radios were built by Alpine. ...not junk but a fm reception issue can develop. put a escape audiophile in

Is there a way to repair the FM reception issue?

I beg to differ. The radios are junk. I had Ford replace mine twice while it was under warrantee. When it started to go a third time, I gave up. The smallest brotherhood in the world are Marauder owners with an original radio. I then purchased the Pioneer AVIC system for my car.

Now I have AM/FM/CD/DVD/ipod/backup camera/GPS

AND.. it hasn't failed in the six plus years that it has been in the car.

There might be but no one has found it. I looked once but the FM receiver was too hard to access.

I agree. The lowest bidder supplies the radios. Alpine may have conceived them but a sweatshop in Madagascar manufactured them. My OE one was removed while the car was a year old and replaced with an Eclipse AVN unit 11 years ago. Still performs flawlessly with DVD, iPod, NAV, touchscreen, and backup camera.

If you go aftermarket, install a resistor on the OE sub turn on wire to make a 5 volt soft turn-on. It will prevent the on/off pop some of you get.

Do you steering wheel control buttons still work with the new head units?

The smallest brotherhood in the world are Marauder owners with an original radio. I guess I'm a member of that elite group, then...

Also, my 2000 MGM had the original radio up until last year when I got tired of not having a CD player, so I installed one from a 1999 Ranger from the junkyard for $40...it plays like a champ.

You can maintain control of all steering wheel radio functionality and any CD/DVD unit in the trunk. I know, because I have been doing so since 2006 with three different Alpine head units. Even better, I receive HD Radio (http://hdradio.com/blog) that sounds better than XM/Sirius. Not bs, HD Radio is a beautiful experience.

Steering wheel controls yes, not the 6 disc in the trunk of your speaking of the Escape radio.

Thanks for the info, any particular Alpine unit you'd suggest? Double din of course

Depends on your budget.

Trying to keep it somewhat inexpensive but I'd like something I can count on. Are they plug and play?

An excellent choice with XM/Sirius support - http://alpine-usa.com/product/view/cde-sxm145bt/

I recommend spending $75.00 (typical - no extras) to have the unit installed.

escape audiophile radio is plug and play, steering wheel controls will work, the disc changer in trunk WILL NOT, but the escape unit has a 6 disc IN DASH so moot point really. sounds better than factory marauder
and looks factory and will keep stereo thieves not interested since they lieki aftermarket the most

Your right, if the escape has the 6 built in I'll just sell it, do you know of any for sale on here or a good place to get one?
