We have decided to sell this Marquis Brougham that has been in the family since new. My parents purchased it in 1980 from the Lincoln Mercury dealer in Lynchburg, Va. This was the first year for the panther platform. This car is loaded! It's equipped with the 351 (5.8L) mated to a C4 transmission, dual exhaust, power everything, and there are three factory installed cigarette lighters (in a coupe)! The original variable venturi carburetor was replaced with a standard Autolite 2100 about 15 years ago- if you're familiar with the VV, you know why. The original unused full size spare is still in the trunk. This old Merc has not been in any accidents but has had two repaints. The original factory paint faded dull within four years. The last repaint was done in 1993 along with a new vinyl top.
My Dad does not drive the car often and the tires show some weather checking. The five digit odometer shows the last 39,xxx but not the first 100k. Serious inquiries only please. We are pricing the car at $4900.

There are two things that make this car a Hard find. First it's a two door. Second, it has the 351 V8. Not easy to find 351 powered Box panthers.

Are you certain it's a C-4 and not an FMX trans in it?

Beautiful car. Although I love it original, this would be a killer Mod Box candidate with a '03+ frame/powertrain... :D

Are you certain it's a C-4 and not an FMX trans in it? AOD replaced FMX in '79.

Not absolutely sure, it was always referred to as a C4. It does not have o/d.

It's a beautiful time of year to visit Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains then take a leisurely ride home with the first panther following close behind.

Dad still says it's still in the way! He hasn't started it for a few months so we're dropping to $3000 to help cover transportation for the buyer. Will need a heater core if you want to drive it in the winter. Come and get it! <martyo> :)

Wow that brings back memories, in 1986 I turned 16 and a 79 2 door grand marquis brougham was my first car, only it was burgundy, it too had the 351. Good luck with the sale, that's a great car and rare.

Hi JimP, I have similar memories from this old Merc. I was 13 when my parents bought this one and I drove it to two proms!

Man I want to buy your 2 door 351W Marquis so badly!

My problem is that within a few months I'd be stuffing a built 427 cid Windsor under the hood to make a 600 HP 'Zack' sleeper!!

I keep imagining the Camaro driver's faces....
as I walk them in "GrandMa's" sedan....

One of you guys needs to step up. I already have three Panthers, one of which is a Box.
This is chump change to a 4V owner. :D
