I'm having a hard time getting the fricking trunk light lens out. One of the vic guys had a tutorial that you pop it out with a flat head screw driver from under the side tab. I tried that and it won't come out, I've cracked the damn thing twice now from pulling so hard! Attempted the sides as well. Ugh. :(
The connector seems pretty meaty behind it from what i can see so I feel like I'm missing something. Advice?

Did you take the nuts off the back side? Pull back carpet inside trunk and you'll see them.

For this trunk light I can't get to the backside and there is no carpet there. (can't be accessed from the other side of the package shelf)

He means the light that lights up the trunkwell.
With that said they are very much a pain in the ass to get out. They're pretty much useless anyway, don't bother with a filament bulb use that connector to wire in some LED strips under the sides of trunk quarter panels like I've done in both cars.
Crappy picture, but you can get the idea

Broke mine, just left broken and open on one of mine, which is lazy, but there isn't a good trick I know of.

As posted the easiest way is to use some LED pods or strips.

Two tabs need to be pushed in at the same time using two tiny screw drivers or two putty knives.
Pita
Also, easiest to climb in and lay on your back.
