Bad Engine Noises...

Went to start the Marauder today. Engine turns over with starter...
But really bad loud noises on top of engine... does not sound internal.
Engine does not start either...Noise is so loud that you only want to turn starter for 4-5 seconds.
ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE...

Loud mechanical clattering... and it appears to be right on top of the engine.

Nobody is going to believe this one...:D
Tried to start the engine and I was inundated with loud engine noises...clanking over and over as long as I dared hold the key at start.
Checked battery terminals. No problem. Towed car into dealer... first mechanic said he had no idea, but it sounded serious....
Did some tests and............
Answer: THE BATTERY WAS DEAD!!!!! Just enough power left to try and engage starter.. slamming it over and over again....
"Learned something new... must not be dead yet"....:cool:
