Air bag light came on today. Not the suspension air bag light. The interior air bags.
Diagnostic equipment shows no trouble codes. Erased anyway. No change.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks.
Determine the number of flashes then google it

Having a bit of a time finding the part online.

I now see the clockspring or airbag could be at fault.

Cruise control out too. Definitely the clockspring. I just replaced it a year ago. Sprayed WD40 on the connectors but no change. Receipt from Ford dealer in Cali says 24 month warranty. Part is now about $200 with shipping. I only paid $125. Unreal.

WD40 does not belong on electrical connections, especially those for a SRS. DeOxit would be the choice I would select for that.
As far as the code, I have not looked it up, I have had to un-plug and plug back in the drivers side crash sensor in my Marauder due to a code a couple of years ago.
I have had to change out various seat belts that have failed and the center belt assemblies, I have only replaced one clockspring.......ever. Not saying it couldn't be bad, just saying it's the first I have ever seen fail on these cars.
Is there a year interchange for them? Meaning, will a clockspring from a 06' or any other year fit?

I checked the connections under the seat, at the RCM, at the airbag, at the clockspring connections. Once I tried the cruise control and saw that it did not work, I knew it was the clockspring. Too much of a coincidence they both go bad at the same time.
I've been using WD40 at electrical connections forever and never had an issue. I know it attracts dust but they are sealed connections. Is there something better? Sure. There always is.
I think the clocksrpring runs 2001 to 04. 1W1Z 14A664 AA

There have been other reports of failed clocksprings.
I need to start grabbing clocksprings from the boneyard

I am certain that they fail, I have not seen this failure on a fleet of 150+ police Vics. I will look in the "boneyard" and see if there are any 04's still around.

Although I cannot tell for sure if sarcasm is at work here, I will still offer up that if you remove the clockspring without stopping the mechanism from turning, it will unwind and be either useless or need to be set up again, if that's possible. I believe the plastic cover is sealed.

No sarcasm, I'll look when I get to work and see if I have a complete column or 03-04 car.

Thinking about it further, the police cars you mentioned aren't 15 years old with 150k miles on them and don't have switches on the wheel, only an airbag. Why my new clockspring only lasted 1 year is a mystery.
Don't look on my account. This part is under Motorcrafts 2 year warranty.

Clocksprings for the panther platform are the same whether they have cruise or not. Not a clue why it would fail, unless the supplier has really cheapened out the parts.

Still less to break. No cruise, switches, etc.
Worked fine for a year. Oh well. It's not a hard repair.

New clockspring obtained under warranty fixed the issues. :)
