Hi all, just got myself a 300eh Marauder, upgraded from a CVPI. I'm absolutely loving it. Thanks to other members for posting on this site; it really helped with my decision to upgrade. Except now I have to fill up the tank...
I know premium is required. But what exactly does that mean? In my area we get 87, 89, 91, and occasionally 94. Which is the ideal grade to use? Also, is it an option to buy cheap 87 gas and use an octane booster such as STP?
I don't mind paying extra for better quality, but if there are cheaper/easier options that achieve similar results I'd really appreciate that.
Thanks in advance!

WELCOME ABOARD!!
91 is fine and you might try 94 later to see if it's any better but probably not!!:shake:
These cars with OEM tunes will run on 87 but timing will be pulled by the PCM and performance will suffer!!:(
Glad ya finally got one and hope you enjoy it as much as I have....I'll have had mine 13 years on 11-25-16!!! :burnout: :D

We ran the wife's on regular for a year or so. it developed a slight rattle at startup and throttle tip-in. Switched to premium and it didn't fix it. Had the Ford dealer de-carbonize it. I believe they used something from B-G. It cleared up the rattle. Stayed with premium after that and the problem never returned. We use whatever brand is the cheapest, but it is usually 93 octane. Now it has 276k.

The owner's manual recommends 91 octane and states that using fuel with less octane MAY effect performance!!;)

The car runs best on the recommended 91 octane. I don't use injector cleaner as that grade of fuel already has cleaners in it. I do use fuel treatment for the winter storage. If you don't, the gasoline will form chunks in the tank and fuel lines if storing for a great length of time.
Put it in the tank, run the car, run the car a few laps around the block, and put it away with the battery tender.
In the spring, she is ready to go.

Congratulations and Welcome! Yes, the MM requires premium. The 2003 Marauder Owner's Manual (p. 197) recommends 91 octane or higher. I personally use 93 or 94 octane at all times. I have had panthers for twenty years at this point including CVs, MGMs and now Marauders and I have always used premium on all of them (even though the CVs and MGMs does not require it). There were times in college where I skipped a few meals, so that the car could have higher quality octane to prevent future problems.
Do yourself a favor, always use 91 octane or higher. The MM is a special limited-production vehicle. They only made about 11,000 of them. Using lower octane can lead to knocking and other issues, especially during the winter months. Using 91 or higher octane will prevent future problems, less headaches and less repairs. So what you "save" on lower octane gas now, you'll pay for much more later with car parts, time and labor repair expenses.
For fuel injector cleaners, I use Chevron Techron Complete Fuel System Cleaner 20 oz every 3,000 miles.

Store shelf octane boosters are a joke, the only one I've used is torco and it's expensive
You don't need a octane booster, you just need premium fuel with clean injectors
My DD 300'eh would ping with 4 fat guys in it, I put one bottle of injector cleaner in every 3rd tank full My black has 206k on it and no more detonation
I just buy the cheap injector cleaner at Walmart 98 cents per bottle
Congrats on the purchase, they are great cars

And if you get a super charger it bumps up to 93!

Store shelf octane boosters are a jokeThis^^^
When these so-called "octane boosters" you can buy OTC say that they raise the octane rating by "4-7 points", what they really mean is 4 to 7 TENTHS. Using one as directed will raise the octane of 87 fuel to 87.7 max.
Do as advised above and use 91 (or higher).
As for fuel injector cleaners, try to find Regane (by Gumout) or Techron (by Chevron). These contain PEA (polyetheramine) and are generally recognised as safe and effective. No need to use it more than a couple of times a year.

Buy 91 or higher from a station like Shell or Exxon. It will have detergents already in it that with regular use should keep fuel system parts clean. I wouldn't use 91 or higher from a place called Billy Bobs gas as who knows whats in it. Where I live there are inspectors who check to make sure the gas meets the minimum octane specified on he pump so Billy Bob is selling the octane advertised(assuming they pass the inspection) but it may not have the detergents a brand name has.
If you get a tuner(Mo's Speedshop or Alternative Auto both vendors here) you can specify what gas is sold in your area and the tuner can adjust the tune accordingly. I have both a 93 tune and a 91 tune should I travel to an area that doesn't sell 93.

Hey badgrandpa. Welcome to the exclusive 470 car club of Canada lol Whereabouts in Vancouver are you located? I'd love to meet up sometime for a chat.
As for what gas. 91 is not recommended, it's required. I always get 91 from shell or if I'm doing a partial fill say 20-30 bucks I would go with Chevron 94 since no ethanol means better mpg and it's only 3 cents more than 91. Avoid octane boosters at all costs.

I don't know of many meets sadly. It's hard to fit in with the dominating ricer crowd round here. There is a Fraser valley car cruise club that meets in the Vancouver/Delta area pretty frequently.
