I am looking to replace my transmission with a used one from a salvage yard for my 2003 Marauder.

From what cars/trucks use the same transmission?

Since you have an '03, I'm assuming you're looking for a 4R70W. So, 03 Crown Victoria, 03 Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car are the closest.

4R70W used in all other applications:
3.9 L V6 Ford Mustang.
4.6 L V8 Ford E-Series.
4.6 L V8 Ford Expedition.
4.2 L and 4.6 L Ford F150 Heritage.

Comprehensive list:

1993–1998 Lincoln Mark VIII
1993–2003 Ford F-Series
1994–1997 Ford Thunderbird
1995–2004 Ford Crown Victoria
1996–2001 Ford Explorer
1993–2004 Lincoln Town Car
1994–1997 Mercury Cougar
1995–2004 Mercury Grand Marquis
2003 Mercury Marauder
1997–2004 Ford Expedition
1997–2001 Mercury Mountaineer
1996–2004 Ford Mustang

The 2004 Marauder had the 4R75W

swap your tailshaft. marauders have aluminum driveshaft which is different length of the steel one in vics, marquis

If you need a different length tailshaft, you also need a different length output shaft, which requires complete disassembly of the trans.

don't forget to check the speed sensor on the tailshaft, my 03 had a black sensor and the donor 04 gm had a white sensor just like the 04 marauders. looking in the sensor hole you can see the differences in the tailshaft. that resulted in my speedo being off by 70mph.

Marty was able to fix my speedo with a tune.

As I stated in another post. My buddy has a 4r70w out of a Mustang that supposedly had 50k +/- miles on it. If interested, shoot me a pm and I'll get you his number

I believe there's also a difference in the arm and/or bracket for the shift cable between column shift and floor shift cars. Minor, but notable.

I got my used transmission from a yard in IA for $200. Had 45k miles on it and came out of a wrecked Marauder.

car-part.com is your friend. Looks like:

Tapatio Autoparts in San Diego has a 36k mile unit for $350

Are they really that cheap?

From what I've seen, they don't price out any different than a regular 4R70W. Granted, there isn't really anything "special" about the MM trans: it just comes pre-set for floor shift and an aluminum driveshaft.

The reason I (and I think most of us on here) made sure to get a Marauder transmission was because 1. The reasons posted above, and 2. If/when I sell the car, I'll be able to tell the new owner that the trans was replaced with an extremely low mile unit out of a matching car.

I held on to my core transmission (the yard didn't want it) on the off-chance that someone might want it to rebuild. Purely because it's original and from a Marauder.

No kidding? Is it in nice shape? I'm glad I'm not the only one who got lucky with a used unit.
