View Full Version : What should I expect after 3500 stall installation?

This will only be my second time having an Automatic supercharged car. The other was my 93 coupe with a c4, and that was temporary(maybe a month). Just wondering what I should expect with around town and interstate driveability? How much different will this make? I'm actually excited about this.

Your Procharger is going to wake up drastically, the rest depends on your transmission tune for converter lockup speed , what mph the car goes into od ,and what mph your 1-2 , 2-3 , and 3-4 takes place, if tuned to your liking you will have a permanent smile on your face, if not your going to regret it.

What he said ^^^^^. From a stop light, pressing the accelerator moderately will have you at 40 MPH very quickly with your 4:10 gearing. Traffic will be looking at your receding tail lights. Your car will quietly and quickly rev into the power band before you know it.

No need to cause a loud commotion, just color you gone.

Fun factor X 10.

Love mine. Not sure I would have done it separately, I installed it at same time I did the SC. But in reality it helps keep the snail in the sweet spot all the time. Just a touch of the peddle and I'm off to the races.

I hate stall convertors, if anyone believes that.
I still say run it with the tune as is, then describe exactly where you want shifting changed to a reputable tuner.
Smiles, expect many.

This is good to hear. I've read other people saying they liked the way the car responded. Even though I'm low boost, my car feels quick as is, although it only went 13.01. If I decide to track it again, which I'm sure I will, traction will really be an issue now I assume. My plan is to have my tune adjusted by Mo's when installed. I like my shift schedule now. My gears hold longer.

Off subject, how many quarts will I need to fill my tranny back up after install? I'm trying to buy the things I need before the swap and this is the last piece. Going to drill the pan and place a drain in it. Will probably drain and refill every 15k afterwards

Seriously? Tell me about it... I'm patiently waiting on UPS to get it to me. I haven't been excited about the MM in a while, but this brings excitement back. Still may be a couple of weeks before I can install it. My kids soccer tournament is this weekend at the beach.

Extended part/full throttle upshift points, firm but not harsh hit in each gear (chirps 2nd easily at any speed, or melts the tires). Will not shift into OD until 65+mph is reached (OD is for the highway in my mind), and convertor lock-up is 5-10mph after the OD shift.
Automatic downshiting on decel comes sooner to engine brake and keep in the power band.
I had the same thing done to my 13 Daytona.

3500 stall makes a lot heat when you are hot rodding it.
Have any way to watch trans temps?

I'd suggest big trans cooler or add one in series to factory unit.

I'm going to add a cooler in line with the factory cooler. Won't be doing much hot rodding. No more than riding around town, at least for the winter. Our drag strip is closed until next year for track repair.

my trans temp usually is within 5-10* of water temp. Cooler than water on colder days.
with stock or 3500 stall, I have yet to see more than a 10* increase in trans temp, under part throttle extended driving, that reduces quickly. No increase during WOT blasts for 10-15 seconds.
I have had no extra cooler in my last 3 cars with 3000+ stall.
not suggesting a bigger/extra cooler is bad, just sayin'.
Probably guys burning up trans due to stall convertors is because it is too loose for the application or driving habits.

How many qts of transmission fluid will I need? Also, best place to install the drain bolt/plug in the transmission pan. I decided it was cheaper and easier for me to simply add one instead of buying an expensive pan.

Hey guys. Last question. Do I have to use Motorcraft Mercon V or will Valvoline Mercon V work?

I think your going to need 14 quarts , well I did with a deep trans pan.

I'm using my stock pan. I was thinking 12 with the smaller converter, but I'll get 14 just in case

I don't imagine all Mercon V is created equal, but walmart has Super tech brand that gets good reviews. Not sure about this
