I have noticed over the past 2 years it is common place for drivers to back into parking spaces, particularly if they are in an SUV or P/U, usually the full size ones.
I have also noticed regardless of where I park my MM, being a very long car, it has repeatedly been smacked on the front bumper. Usually just enough to scuff or crack the paint. I have an excellent alarm but I am not always in range and by the time I get out there they are gone.
When I have my MM repainted I am very tempted to put a push bar on it.
I noticed in the Auto Parts store they sell a rubber guard front license plate.
Why are they backing in?
Do those rubber guard front license plates work?
Why do People buy and drive cars they cannot properly drive?

Your goal should be to prevent damage to your car. Think a warning sound when something gets to close to your baby.

Why do People buy and drive cars they cannot properly drive? The real problem is not that people buy cars they can't drive, it's that most people simply CAN'T DRIVE. They'd be bashing your car with their Corolla...

they back in as it is harder to back out into the aisle as its harder to see. if you don't want it bumper tapped, you can't park with the general public. gotta park way far out. none of my cars have been parking lot dinged as i park away from the impatient non common sensed people.

This subject is part of the driver's training (for company cars) at my employer. Apparently a lot of accidents happen in parking lots where people are backing out into oncoming "traffic", carts, people, etc. So they tell us that it's "statistically safer" to pull out of a spot rather than to back out. So that school of thought may have something to do with people (myself included) parking that way. I think others do it just because they think they have sweet cars...

Most of us have been taught in a driving class that it is easier to pull out (Twss) of a parking space than to back out. That said.... I back both my trucks in, f150 or f350 crew cabs, turning circle is crap, and is a event if it's a tight spot when leaving, way easier to back in and pull out. Cameras and back up sensors are a wonderful thing.
But, reality is, most people can't drive and don't care about your car or theirs, just saw a Buick today at the grocery, they drove right into the car parked on the other side, got out and went in the store, probably did 3k in damage to the Toyota.

Thanks for the advice and the radar warning sounds interesting. I remember years ago a friend had one that said - "Stop you are too close to the vehicle".
I must be doing something right because in 195K miles not a single door ding or smack in the rear bumper by an unknown.
I hope this company "instructions" includes training that teaches people how to back up without hitting anything.
I have no doubt it is easier for them!
On more than one occasion when there was no traffic behind me I have monitored someone // parking and had to whale on the horn as many as 3 times so that they would not smack the car parked behind them. If I had not been there I am certain they would have damaged the car parked behind them.

Thus my having the following horns mounted on my ride (set facing froward and set facing rearward). I need only one burst and stupid stops.

I back into almost every parking spot unless there's crazy traffic, in that case I just pull into the spot to get out of the other drivers way instead of holding them up as I do the reverse routine.
It's jokes because my grandfather always chastises me for reversing into spots saying it's really unsafe and pulling into the parking spot and reversing out is safer and easier. He's convinced I'm going to go through his garage door when I visit even though he has a six car driveway.. I guess it's just his old school ways.
I have a damaged rear bumper after I left my car near a boat loading ramp at a small lake up north. Only owned it for a month, car was way outta the way but still manged to get scuffed up pretty good with one small hole just above the right rear exhaust tip. It sucks as I haven't come across a replacement yet but others have told me it can be fixed.

How many rear covers do you want?

Had this happen recently. All the way, front to back, both sides. All 4 doors and trunk lid.
Pretty sure it was because somebody thought it was a cop car.
As for push bumper, I wouldn't. Detracts from the appearance of the car, I think.

That's exactly what I was going to mention
Most of us park out in BFE and just drive through one spot to the exiting spot, this saves us from backing up, too many variables. Cu nts here drive 40 mph in the parking lot, no thanks!
Backing in at the grocery store is a no no, can't get the cart and fill the trunk with beer and steaks

I back my Supercrew in quite often for two reasons.
Easier to split the scene instead of waiting for some jackhole to let me out.
Turning a larger vehicle into a tight place is way easier in reverse.
The back up sensors make it too damn easy if your mirror handicapped..
The parking spaces have just been made too damn small around here where parking can get to be impossible to find at some locations. Like I mentioned, backing the truck in is just quicker and makes for a quick get away. [emoji1303]
But yeah, seeing some people backing up anything scares the crap out of me!
As for the Marauder, I've had the BEST luck just wedging it into wherever it fits for the last few years! Not kidding! Not a single mark on her where parking far away always seemed to do more harm..

I think that the increased abundance of mini-vans, pick-up trucks, and SUVs has contributed to the back-in parking phenomenon. If you are between two of these monsters, visibility in backing out is terrible since you can't see a thing until you are halfway out of the spot. Many newer cars are one huge blind spot anyway with major side and rear visibility problems that add to the issue.
Busy parking lots have become more dangerous for both pedestrians and other vehicles as people ignore lanes and lines and will even cut between parked cars to get to their coveted parking spot closest to the store front.
Most of these drivers have trouble going forward in a straight line. I don't trust them at all backing up. Even with rear cameras and sensors, it seems some of them still park by feel and keep moving until they hit something. The really bad ones are easy to spot since they proudly display their scrapes, dents, and damaged fenders.
Like many others here, I prefer to park way out in the lot and just enjoy the longer walk knowing that only a few will want to park that far away. It is not a foolproof solution; but it does minimize the traffic around your car.
I always thought that backing into a spot was the Get Away car syndrome. I'll only do it at car shows and such. Otherwise, I don't have a problem getting in or out of spots forward, backward, slant or parallel.

Yep....
I ask this question hundreds of times a week as I avoid the Toyotas, Hondas and Hyundais swirling, spinning and crashing around me on the DC-Baltimore highways.
I always call them 'occupants'...or 'steering wheel warmers', as they can't be called drivers!

I back in to every spot in my truck, marauder, GTO, and cruiser because its how I have been trained. Its definitely safer. As for getting hit, I've come to accept it and its why the Marauders bumpers have yet to be painted despite how badly they need it.

Only about 5% of people back into spaces. They are more successful in life, have more patience and a lot run their own businesses, like the 2%.
I back into everything with the Marauder, but I keep a distance to keep the Carollas at large. Plus I love leaving like a total jackass to offend everyone.
Bottom line is it's an easy in with the mirrors looking for the parking lines and easy out without blind spots. At least that's my POV.

I like to pull through if possible, otherwise the only time I back in with the Marauder is at meets/cruise nites/car shows. I do try and park the Marauder away from the crowds on the occasions I have it out and I'm not attending an event. I find by parking the Marauder away from the commuter idiots I meet other car enthusiasts who stop while I'm putting stuff in the trunk or something. I had a nice conversation this past Fall with a guy who stopped to say 'nice car'. Turns out he was restoring a Hemi Dart, I hope I get a chance to see that car someday.
