Except some of the brands of battery tenders, other than Battery Tender brand itself, can get screwed up when they are back fed.

Did not know. See, still learning something daily! [emoji1303]

You would just assume they could handle a volt or two. I guess they are "tender" [emoji4]

Just to be on the safe side I always disconnect my tender before I start my MM.

I always buy those $20 Schumachers and never have an issue with it. Motorcycles, cars, snowmobiles, atvs, tractor, whatever.

Mine get hooked up to my Battery tender as soon as it gets parked in the garage. They are designed to be put on and left on for months at a time. I just try and disconnect them before starting just to be safe.

A good practice.

This one is, I believe, the lowest level charge offered by Battery Tender. It can left on indefinitely.

I run an extension cable thru the inner fender and plug in the charger. This way you can close the hood. Just remember to disconnect it. I have the Battery Tender Junior 021-0123.

Here's one of my Battery Tender units. This one can handle ten cars.

The charger has a quick disconnect break away style plug.

My maintainer is under the hood, since it's a small plug-in unit. If I don't remember to unplug it, it will disconnect from the extension cable which I will see laying on the ground.... and then I'll pop the hood and remove the maintainer.

I leave my hoods up while the charger is connected for two reasons. One it reminds me the charger is hooked up and two (the big reason) is the mice do not nest in the engine compartment.

Mine stays outside... so the hood stays shut.

The Schumacher comes with alligator clips and a quick connecter that you leave permanently connected to the battery. Throw it in the engine compartment, run an extension cord. Leave hood ajar. Shut it if you are careful. Leave on forever. Start it connected. No matta.
Ummm, yeah. I wish I had 10 cars to worry about charging....

I use the quick connector with my unit.

Check Lowe's. My local Lowe's has the same Schumacher unit for $19.88 if you don't want to wait for Amazon to deliver one.

I have Craftsman tenders on my 3 antiques. I leave the alligator clips on the posts unless taking car(s) to a show where there is judging. When parked I run a length of romex wire down through engine compartment and twist it on to the end of the quick connector and then pull it up and plug in to the section attached to the posts. That way I can shut the hood and use my custom covers. The cars are in a garage and the tender sits on the floor on a cardboard box.

I have backed out before without unplugging though but has always unplugged at the quick connector itself.
