What does everyone here use for rust preventative? New England winters absolutely wreck frames & tubs due to the amount of salt & calcium/magnesium chloride used on the roads.
So far I've had awesome luck with POR15 (with anal retentive surface prep), but what have you guys used? Anyone have any other tips & tricks other than regular washing & pressure washer play dates?
I ended up driving my '03 for the past two days because it's been dry & relatively warm. Still cringing over the nasty stuff I'm going to have to pressure wash off of & out of the frame this spring.

rust preventative for me is stays in the garage from late Nov. to late April. It's my ride, it's my choice..
you need to oil spray it or find a applicator of Fluid Film and do it every year before winter.
google fluid film

That originally was my plan, unfortunately my garage is packed full of stuff that really can't sit outside. [emoji53]
I drove it around the other day to get the underneath washed at Russell Speeder's & looooong highway drive to get air flowing under there. It felt nice to get back behind the wheel of the Merc after a month or two.
I'll have to give fluid film a shot at some point. I've heard of it, but I've never personally used the stuff.

You can't stop it, only slow it down... winter driving = rust period...

I don't drive my Marauder or any vehicle I care about in the winter salt. Thats really the only true prevention.
Other than that, I love POR15 for already rusty stuff. Used it on a few truck frames with great results. Also you need to clean the undercarriage weekly in my opinion to prevent salt from setting into all the crevices and that still won't get all of it.

I know what that's like, the amount of salt they throw on the roads out here is ridiculous. I wish I could garage my car throughout the winter but car ownership in this country is so expensive that I can't afford to run a winter beater nor do I have the space for it so I have to drive my Marauder all year long and I hate doing it.
I get my car undercoated before every winter but that only slows the rust down, nothing can stop it entirely so at the end of the day you can only watch it rot when you drive it in the salt.
So I agree the only true prevention is to garage the car or move south.

car ownership in this country is so expensive that I can't afford to run a winter beater Marvin, what part is so expensive? I know petrol is much more expensive than here, but is it the registration, insurance, taxes or what?

To be perfectly honest, I've never, ever seen rust issues like I have with this crap they're spraying on the roads. I'd swear the **** is 10x more corrosive than regular salt.
I'd love to move south & get out of this New England hellhole. Getting bent over on taxes is fun too lol
