I haven't heard any good cruising stories lately.
I'll start...
Driving in to work early today on this cool spring morning with the windows up and Deep Purple telling me about life...
I hit two miles of straight 4 and 6 lane divided boulevard, 45 mph speed limit, traffic light every 3-4 blocks. At the front of the pack, no one in front for 2 lights up. Hit red at every light with 1 or 2 different cars lined up at each one.
Everyone was taking a run at the MM and then jostling for position for the next light. I'd walk it out to wait for a bite and then get into the throttle until 45 mph.
Early 90's Turbo Eclipse (I had one for nearly 10 years, it was like "yeah, right"), new Grand Cherokee, Buick something-or-other, Grand Am, Ram 5.9L P/U (had one of these too), Volvo, Maxima, older 3-series, etc., etc. Even a sorry looking Acclaim thought he'd take a chance. Not that any of them were suitable matches to be classified as "kills"... heck, I was hoping for a good run with anyone. I finally got to the highway entrance ramp and left the Buick grabbing for his a** on the turn.
I felt like I should have been selling tickets... man I love this car.

I got creamed at a red light the other day by a F-150 Lightening. I know...I know... it has a S/C. But it made me mad enough to start thinking again about S/Cing myself after I saw the smirk on the guys face. I've been sitting on the fence because of cost but If I were to get smoked by a Honda or something it would most likely send me seething over the edge.

HwyCruiser,
I love to hear people that get psyched about their car while out for a drive!! There are so many posts about people complaining about this, that, or the other thing...it's gets discouraging after a while. Then a post like this comes along!! I'm glad you love your car. I love every second I'm in mine. The car is just pure bad ass from every angle! Awesome!
Tmac1337,
Getting creamed every once in a while is respectable. So is getting creamed by a totally decent vehicle. What fun would it be if every time you raced, you won, and you knew you were going to win? I like the thrill of a good race, and sometimes even losing. It keeps me humble, and honest. However tangling with a Lightning is a rough task! At least you didn't lose to a Ricer! I'm glad I have the car I have...I know what kind of power it has, and what it's potential is too. With some time, patience, and some $$$$ that Lightning will be a joke...and he'll be the one wearing the :fire:
Keep the good stories coming!

Good point Mat and good story Hwy, but alas I have no stories of my own to share. It seems no one will run with me at the light, oh well. :depress:

tmac1337,
This is just the sort of motivation that got me modding. Stock my MM would get ran by a lot of cars I don't even think twice about now with the basic mods. I'm half hoping for a couple good spankings by some soup'ed up Mustangs, Camaros, Impalas, etc. so I can get my head back into the game. I just tip my hat to the Corvettes and Lightenings and let them get about their business. You just gotta appreciate which way the scales are tipped when its plenty obvious.
Maybe seeing some s/c'ed MMs at play during MVII will be all it takes.
mpearce,
This is my 10th car so far, from econoboxes to ricers to trucks to sedans, and the MM has been the only one that I've developed a passion for. A lot of it has to do with this site, and a lot has to do with the people I've found who share a passion for performance as I've begun replacing good parts with better.
Haggis,
I think your KB's attitude just scares them too much. Its kinda like poking a sleeping tiger with a stick... it may be tempting to try, but who wants to draw back a bloody stump?

Uh huh, even I know to turn away from a car that whistles....:baaa:
Figure out how to muffle that whine and you'll get challenged far more often...or just get new plates that say 'FSTRN UR' ....then every moron with cohonies the size of their fart pipes will step right up!

If you have a stock Marauder and a Honda loss will set you over the edge then I urge you to go head to head with an Accord that has a driver that knows what he is doing.
That'll get you supercharged real fast.

Come on, Barry. I'm appalled at that last statement.
MOST of us do not need S/C to outrun Accords.

Most of us have modified Marauders.
The research I did on this turned up bad news for us. Car and Driver tested the stock 03 Marauder and it did the quarter in 15.5 seconds. The 03 Accord EX V6 was tested by Car and Driver and it also did the quarter at 15.5. But get this! The 6 speed two door did the quarter in 14.5 seconds.
Furthermore, an 03 Accord in stock form will do 130. A stock '03 Marauder is limted to 119. (attrib: Car and Driver)
I know that if I went against an Accord and couldn't smoke him I would be a bit surprised. Even a break even against one would be a bit embarassing.
We should be careful about not inhaling our own smoke too quickly here. :) A stock '03 Accord V6 6-speed coupe will beat a stock '03 Marauder in the quarter mile by an entire second. The 4 speed 4 door will break even and both will run away in the top end. Not what I would call a kill.
I don't like this any more than anyone else does and because of it I tend to not pick a fight with an Accord. For now! Supercharger time will be much different.
Like I said, racing an Accord is a quick way to get pushed over to a supercharger.
Best,
Dan

Dan, according to Car and Driver, I beat a stock Marauder by just under a full second. So there are too many variables to consider when comparing to an Accord V6.
Considering that my Marauder pulled a 15.06 with a ticking head and not enough break-in, one would then have to make sure the Accord was also fully broken in and racing in exactly the same conditions, before comparing the best 1/4 mile time.
But that being said, I still think a V6 Accord is something to be watchful for, when in stock form. Honda makes excellent drivetrains...

Ok...so the Accords got a second on our MM's. So what? The Accords not an AMERICAN car. Doubtful if it's got a website, and a multitude of clubs dedicated to it with incredible people sharing stories, information, and anything else you could possibly come up with. Doubtful it's got an annual gathering called RICERVILLE for all Accord owners to attend. If I'm not mistaken, the sticker price on the 2 door v6 coupe is damn near our MM's!! Not worth it if you ask me...all for 1 measley little second? I'd much rather have a black menacing american muscle sedan with all the bells and whistles, than an Accord. But thats just me. These cars are way to much fun...and have so much potential! And that my friends...is where the fun begins!

"Proud not to own a Honda Accord"
Whoa, Mat, buddy,
In the beginning of the thread tmac 1337 sadi "If I were to get smoked by a Honda or something it would most likely send me seething over the edge (to buy a supercharger."
I was simply trying to give him enough supporting info to go over the edge and get a charger.
I was in no way trying to bring down an MM and agree wholeheartedly with every thing you said about the coolness of the car. Although I wonder if there really aren't Accord owners who feel the same way about their cars as we do ours. (http://www.vtec.at/hclub.htm) For them, stock might just be the beginning, too. :)
Best,
Dan
PS: I am NOT a Honda fan. I, personally don't like them. I bought an MM. THAT is what I like.

Oh...I never thought for one second anyone was trying to bring down the Marauder! I'm just very partial when it comes to the MM :D Yes, it does irk me a bit that the ricemobile is a bit faster...but soon the S/C will come and with some tweaking 12.0's...and then the Z06 will have a problem on it's hands!
-Mat
I got the sense that a little "irkage" was hapening there. :)
It irks me, too. It irks me, too.

I was wondering when you were gonna catch that. To make it worse it is all Euro ricer links. pfffft

LOL!!
Hey, did you hear about the sweet fart pipes some new vendor is making special just for the Marauder? I think they might have some flashy Marauder "Type R" decals you can slap on your rear bumper. Last but not least is the bright yellow plastic dash insert upgrades for your interior. Remember the ricers motto... "Yellow + Stickers - Class = Performance"

I'm not picking on you, Mat, but you do realize there is a vendor on this site that sells a version of our exhaust tips without the internal diameter restriction, in order to increase sound output?

OK, so maybe there are some cars out there that can outrun a stock MM. Let's see them put 4 grown men in their car for a 1000 mile road trip, and see who likes the two ton + MM and who wants to get in the back seat of an Accord coupe. I've always said Honda makes fantastic cars - for someone else. For me, growing up in Texas, I figure if I can't beat the other guy with my a/c on full blast, it's time for more horsepower. I wonder how many Accords would like to line up next to Lidio's car.....
With that said, I bet that the same four guys would put the MM in front of any Accord that was similarly loaded.
Best,
Dan
PS: I have yet to test this but rumor has it that those 4 guys can all fit in the trunk. :) Now let's see an Accord to THAT!!!!

Dead right! And ps, every single one of my friend stood slack jawed for about 10 seconds when I showed them the trunk, then without me saying a word they crawled in the trunk. I tell people when I get air conditioner vents back there, I'll have a 7 passenger car;)

Tripple TA...I was not picking on anyone in particular...in fact the vendor that makes the new pipes for our MM's...their products look fantastic! I was picking on the kids who buy a brand new Saturn, Civic, or even an old CRX...and throw on the biggest, ugliest, nastiest sounding, rusted out old coffee can, and glue it on to their ride, thiking that a "tip" will give them the extra 5 HP they need to take on the world! I even saw someone with a brand new Civic who had to "cut up" his rear bumper so his new fart pipe could fit! It looked like his baby brother used a pair of scisors on it! I was shocked! I'd never pick on a vendor...they're the ones that support our madness!

Ok, I got a cruise'n story.
Last Saturday, I'm driving south on the Anthony Henday (part of a ring road that circles most of the city - high speed, no lights) and what flys by me but a little Sunfire in that really ugly '****e pringle puke' yellow that I hated on the Anniversary Trans-Am.
And what is chasing him but a Red Acura RSX!!
Eeeeeexellent! Smithers, release the hounds!
They both head east onto the Whitemud, right where it turns from 2 lanes to 3. Hehehe. I take the right lane, and don't make eye contact as the light turns red.
The two of them sound like chainsaws in an attempt to psyche them selves up for what is sure to be a disappointment for them both. I shift into first, apply the brake and bring the revs up a little. The light turns green, and we're off!
I hold back from full throttle and keep pace with them until I get above 3000rpm. Then I nail it for full effect. Elvira lets out her deep growl, and the passenger in the RSX looks at me like "What's the old guy think he's doing?" as I leave them behind like they were still back at the lights. As my rear is passing their front, the RPM's are approaching 5500, and I shift to second for that wonderful 'chirp' to let them know they've been outgunned.
I continue to about 110 (75mph) in an 80 (50) zone, and back off back to 90km/h. I never see them using 'my' road again. Guess they didn't even want the 'loser fly by.'
