fail? Mine just failed at 25,000 miles. Cost to replace?:

I replaced mine and it failed after a year. It was covered under FOMOCO warranty. I did the labor though.

In the thirty + years 10 years as a Ford / Lincoln / Mercury tech and the rest working on mine, family members and friends cars I never had a clock spring fail..... knock wood.

Replaced my clock spring at 118k, (no cruise control). Parts $156, Labor $289,
tax $40 = Total $485.00 (2014). Dealer did the job.

Knock on wood like FBM. I personally haven't needed to replace mine, but a $15.00 tool at harbor freight sells a 3 jaw puller kit

I've yanked many MGM and Continental steering wheels, isn't the clock spring right there (the next step) once the wheel is off???

Thanks ALL for the good info Ref: failed Clock Spring.
Guess I will have to "bite the bullet" on this one.
I always thought that this part was...bullet proof. LOL

It's not a hard job. Only takes an hour. Do it yourself. And you don't need a puller.

 no puller needed to remove the steering wheel

Good luck!

Reinstall the steering wheel bolt a couple of turns to protect your face. Grab the wheel with both hands at 3 & 9 and start pulling in a rocking motion. It will pop right off. If you forgot to thread the bolt in then reinstall wheel quickly and go get your broken nose fixed.

I've never used a puller on any car because lazy.

I did clock spring in Louisville in 20 minutes start to finish. Super easy repair.

Just sayin' I'd rather use a $5.00 puller than possibly bend the wheel

:)

That's how it's done on modern cars, use a puller and you'll probably end up breaking the wheel.

Then you must be able to bench more than I can. I tried 2 different MM and they would not budge. Even the MGM and continental wheels are just as tough to yank. They give that POP sound once pressed off the shaft.

Just cause it's a marauder doesn't mean it's any easier than a MGM

Bob I'll have a few more beers with ya this year if you drive down for Louisville:)

Clock spring went out or there's a power failure to it?

The clock spring was replaced right after purchase. It seems as if it failed again as no cruise control, air bag light on, no stereo controls.
