Have any of you guys ever put used tires on your Marauder? I ask because I caught a nail by the sidewall on one of my rear tires. And I was thinking about looking for a decent, used replacement, instead of buying a new one or new pair, or whole set. If I could even find one. Is it even worth it? I got about 30k miles on my nitto motivo's, thinking I could buy a little more time with a used tire for now.

I put used rear firestone a/s on my DD DTR. The were hand me downs from a friend
I've put 3k on them
If you found some that were 4 years old or newer for a decent price I'd do it
Might find 1 on CL. I'd stay away from summotommo tires, they suck in wet weather

i prefer not to mix tread patterns side to side, finding a used Motivo in the right size is prolly slim. i know it is a hit $ wise, but i would buy 2 new rear tires myself, and if the good rear is decent, save it for another unexpected event. this is my preference.

With 30,000 miles I wouldn't hesitate on a used tire to by me some time to save for four new ones.

I use used tires sometimes. Must be correct brand, size, tread pattern.

I just bought 2 used, like new Nitto Motivos on ebay for 1/2 the price of new. I also have a nail in the sidewall that I plugged and want to replace my 15 year old spare. I want my spare to be the same size as the rears so I don't burn out my posi if I ever have to use it. I run 255/55's in the rear.

Always buy new. You never know what that used tire has been through. My car or quarter panel isn't worth the risk to save a few bucks. I mean, it is what the car depends on to perform the way it is supposed too.

CHECK DOT numbers! Example 2014 at the end of the DOT is 20th week of 2014. Tires over 6 years old cannot be sold and tires over 10 years old should not be on your vehicle.

Ive never in my 16 years of driving have bought new tires. Not even for winter used. Never had an issue either. Just following my dads steps which has over 40 years driving. I also do the same for the wife. For the past 6-7 years ive bought my used tires from http://www.bestusedtires.com/
Great guys to do business with. There prices are great and they have lots of brands and options.

^^^^^ this is true you must watch the date of manufacture on the tires. I once got 2 that were already 7 years old.

OP asked a question. I answered honestly, I do it all the time. Everybody has their own opinions about whether it's right or wrong.

Never, ever on the Marauder or any other car that I have owned. Tires and brakes are two areas where I am not willing to cut corners. As a teenager in the 1960s, we used to sell Recaps/Retreads in popular sizes at Western Auto for about 50% of the cost of a new set of tires. Don't see recaps much anymore except maybe on truck tires. Really scary behind an 18-wheeler when one of those recap treads decides to separate. I always went for the best tire that I could afford .... Always !!
I remember one time in the early 1970s that I had to make a decision between getting new tires or making a car payment because money was a tad short at the time. I got the tires and decided to take my chances with the finance company. I still think it was the right decision.

+1!
I agree 100%.
I'd only put used tires on a car I'm getting rid of.
Just put $600.00 + tires on my wife's Charger and will be putting $300.00 + on my DD Ranger.

Junkyards and Craig's list are your friends. Just get the right size and be sure they aren't too old.

Never cheap out on your tires, brakes, tools, and shoes. Reason should be self evident.

I concur. But I would also add batteries as well.
