View Full Version : Get together?

How about meeting up in Martinez at the Cobra Day carshow on June 3? It is free to just look at the cars and maybe go inside the Museum. There is usually lots of parking as it is held in an office park where most of the businesses are closed on the weekend.
My suggestion is that we park together there, see the cars and go to lunch. Martinez is sort of in the middle of where we live.

There are a couple of Kinders locations near by. If you have not eaten at them, and you like BBQ meat ... you are missing out.

The closest one is smaller, but there is one about 4-5 miles down Hwy 4 on Arnold Industrial. They have a good size lot with places to sit inside and outside.

So far this is the plan.
1. Meet at the Cobra Experience on June 3, 2017 about 11 AM.
777 Arnold Drive, Suite 200, Martinez, CA 94553 - 925.558.5585.
2. Check out the car show (free). See the all Ford show with cars we can't afford.
3. Meet at a nearby Kinder's BBQ with lots of parking for lunch so we can park together.
4. Take a drive on a nearby road that would be fun to drive on.
I think 4 drivers have agreed so far.

FAB FORDS at knottsberry farms? If there is a CV club headed down we could convoy...

:hijack::sorry:

Just had too interject something here, Sorry. One of my relatives and her husband were the ones that founded Knottsberry farm, Cordelia Hornaday and her husband Walter Knotts.

Chapter VI - The Push Toward Excelling

The most prominent of Hiram's descendants was Cordelia (Hornaday) Knott, who with her husband Walter, founded Knott's Berry Farm on a ten-acre property in Buena Park, California. There Walter developed the boysenberry and began to grow it commercially; and there Cordelia (Hornaday) Knott opened a roadside stand in 1923 to sell berries and preserves and pies. The stand gradually grew into a tearoom, then a cafe seating twenty. Cordelia (Hornaday) Knott opened a chicken dinner restaurant next. She later recalled those days in an interview with the Los Angeles Times: "[it was the depth of the depression and] Dad wasn't doing so well selling berries. Times were hard and we were going broke. We tried to borrow some money from a local banker but we failed.

"We had some bills to pay and didn't know where the money was coming from so I got this idea of selling fried chicken dinners in the tea room. I surprised Dad when I told him about it one day.

"He didn't object but I think he had some doubts. I charged 85 cents for the dinner and we served eight that day. Business grew like Topsy and I never dreamed what would happen."

The restaurant business grew and grew. By 1937 the Knotts were seating 300 people for dinner every night. By 1974 the restaurant could handle 1,150 persons at each meal in eight dining rooms. Knott's Berry Farm dining rooms serve an average of 1,000,000 persons every year. The entertainment park began as a means of keeping people happy as they waited for dinner. Walter Knott's volcano, which periodically spat out fire and smoke, was the talk of Southern California when it was unveiled. The giant amusement park and restaurant complex that resulted from all this have grown into a business that grosses $20,000,000 annually, draws more than 4,000,000 tourists each year, and is managed by a family partnership now including third-generation members.

The knotts stressed their pioneer ancestry in amusements, literature and exhibits. With "unabashed patriotism" they created an audiovisual commentary on American history. The Berry Farm is the Knott family's expression of themes which have run through our story of the Hornaday family. Their sense of an educational mission fits into the Hornaday emphasis on the ministry, journalism and teaching. Their sturdy independence and practicality also characterizes the Hornaday approach to life, It is somehow typical of Knott's Berry Farm that until December, 1977, its Chicken Dinner Restaurant was still making up to 120,000 biscuits a week with Cordelia's fifty-year old china rolling pin (12).

Starting to dump money into my 2500 Suburban, lift, tires, wheels suspension then more suspension and then more suspension stuff....lol Been exploring the back country in the burb so setting up for moderate jeep trails to explore.

I even contemplated getting rid of the Marauder altogether. looking at a F30 BMW 335i my son is getting my 2010 GTI Autobahn Bavarian muscle is fun too.

The plan for June 3 at this point to meet at the Cobra Experience Cobra Day car show located at 777 Arnold Dr. in Martinez. Here is there weblink http://www.cobraexperience.org/. They are located off Hwy 4 between Hwys 80 and 680.
1. Meet there between 10 and 11 AM at that location. Admission to view the car show is FREE. View the cars we can never afford. They don't know we are coming so don't expect any special recognition. My suggestion is to park in the first lot you see near the entrance. I'll try to get there early. If you have a low car watch the entrance.
2. Drive over to have lunch at Kinders BBQ at 1776 Arnold Industrial Dr. for lunch. Thanks to gdsqdcr for the suggestion. From what I see on Google Maps you can turn left (east) on Arnold Dr. and drive to Kinders in 10 min.
3. Chayton has some ideas about road trip routes in the area.

There are no arrangements with the Cobra Experience. The best bet is to park as close to the road as possible. We might be able to park together. Viewing the car show is FREE. Entering the car show is $40. We can park together at lunch at Kinders. Food and gas should be cheaper than $40.

So Cobra day is this Saturday!

Disclaimer, I am leaving by 11.30 or so as my nephew is graduating and his party is at my house and I running the BBQ ... not my choice but if I must suffer with Flank, Ribs and chicken I will. =)

But, Cobra Experience opens at 10.00.

Location:
The Cobra Experience,
777 Arnold Drive, Suite 200,
Martinez, Ca 94553

What time are we meeting?
Are we going to drive in together or arrive staggered? If we want to arrive together, we could stage at the Walmart a 1/2 mile away (1021 Arnold Dr, Martinez, CA 94553)

My suggestion is to meet at the Walmart at 0930 and drive up together. Yes, 30 minutes early cause we know not everyone will be on time ... some of us will want to do last minute details/wipe downs before we show up ...

Lunch is at Kinders on 1776 Arnold Industrial Way, Concord, CA 94520, 4.5 miles away. They have plenty of parking at the Ball Tip Sandwich is fantastic! And if you are hungry, they have a stuff sourdough with pulled pork, absolutely wonderful. Everything I have had there is good.

Drive afterwards, IIRC Chayton has that addressed already.

I ran into a coworkers husband who might join us. He bought a 03 Trilogy with 38K miles on it in Southern California last year. He is going to try and join us as well.

So Cobra day is this Saturday!

Lunch is at Kinders on 1776 Arnold Industrial Way, Concord, CA 94520, 4.5 miles away.

Anthony

As BRG Racing is 2 miles away, I have bought lunch at that Kinders tens of times for the shop. I recommend the filet steak sandwich. Enjoy and have fun.

Guys, this Saturday meeting kind of petered out. Favian and I would spend 2x times driving there than we'd get to spend with you all. And he too has gradusations tomorrow night.

So I think we two are out for tomorrow.

4th of JULY Parade? IF SO we need to start planning NOW. We need to plan a stunt in front of Judges table.

Example: Quickly Park cars to create "MM" infront of judges and rev to 4,000? or Big S turn MM Conga line slithering by?

Family matters trumped this morning .... could not even get the car washed this morning.

Ugh! Graduation party day .... not my graduation or my kids but it is family so as I tell colleagues and reports alike, family first.

I saw one other MM in the parking area at the car show. CA license # 03MERC. Plus I didn't get there until 1030 as I underestimated the amount time it took to get there. Picked up some BBQ on my way home. Oh well, there is always next time.

July 28 - 30 is the NHRA Sonoma nationals. That's a good event that's close by. Chayton's 4th of July in Benicia is around the corner
