Painted it with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. Check out the pics in the Gallery. It is ok to use with or without a topcoat, I am not painting over it. It is available in Red, Silver, or Black: I got the Black. It is not glossy nor flat, something in between like chassis black. I guess it could have been done neater if I had removed the rear end, but it still looks lots better than it did before. I used the sponge brushes from Eastwood. They work lots better than the el cheapo sponge brushes from the hardware store (they basically dissolve and fall apart). A pint should be plenty. I got a quart and have lots left over. Maybe I'll add another coat after awhile if it needs it.

I also painted mine with POR 15...the rear is now shiny black..no more rust,
and it looks great.

Dumb question... could there be any issues with heat retention with that layer of paint over an item like an axle or differential?

Go to Gallery, then Member Galleries, then about page 4 you'll find FordNut, there are 3 pics of the rear end.

The left side I missed a couple of spots (look under the car past the jack stand and you'll see the wife's silver MM), the right side looks pretty good, the full view shows that the allen bolts in the girdle are not stainless and they're getting rusty so they need to be replaced with stainless ones soon.
