View Full Version : Should I sell my car as a whole or should I part it out?

I own the worst Marauder that has ever existed. It is way more trouble than it's worth and I just want to get rid of it. Here is the shape of the car:

The good (believe me there is not much to put here):
-The transmission was recently rebuilt
-The alternator was replaced with a new one (I still have the old one and it's an original part)
-The engine needs a degreasing but other than that only has a few leaks (one around the PCP valve and the other around the drain plug)
-The leather seats were replaced with another kind of material. I'm told it's ostrich
-The battery was recently replaced
-No suspension issues other than rust
-It has a new ECM and passed emissions two months ago (The check engine light is on now however due to a misfire in Cylinder 4)
-While it has had a recent (although horribly amateur) paint job the original color of the car was silver (The exterior code is JP)
-It's a 2004
-It has a spoiler and, surprisingly, the trunk is original

The bad:
-There are only three original tires. The fourth tire on the car as of now is the full sized spare that came with the car. One of the three original tires has a bent rim and as of now that tire is shredded.
-The front end is horrible. The front bumper is from a Grand Marquis and it's in horrible condition.
-The front grille is also from a Grand Marquis. It's in good condition
-According to a sticker on the underside of the hood it's from a Crown Vic
-The sunroof button panel is taped on as it kept falling off
-One of the front headlights is from a Grand Marquis. All other lights are original
-The shifter is functional but in two pieces
-A piece under the glove box fell off so a bulb attached to some wire currently rests on the ground
-There is no radio and the antenna wire has been cut
-The mirrors are glued on
-The back bumper is intact but has a crack on the bottom right side right near the exhaust.
-The coil pack will need to be replaced soon
-Needs a power steering pump
-One of the center caps was so loose I just took it off. I still have it
-The exhaust pipes are not aligned
-The tires need to be replaced

Parting out is a lot of work, packing and shipping so parts are not damaged, but the parts are worth more than the whole a lot of times. Depends on how quick you want to be rid of it.

Zack...you were looking for a silver, but maybe not quite this amount of work?

I just want the most amount of money I can get for it. If parting out will get me more money than I might go that route.

So will $500.00 buy it? What amount are you thinking?

Doesn't sound like the car was the worst that ever existed, more like the owners..

Sell it, the time taking it apart won't add up to anything that seems worth while

Believe me I thought it wasn't going to be as much of a project. The previous owner ruined the wiring, put a cobra badge on it and had a huge speaker cut in the back. I'm guessing he bought it from an auction and added cosmetics to it instead of actually fixing the car. It does have an alarm system and an automatic start though and the seats are nice but that's about it

I guess the engine and transmission would be worth salvaging.

Got a console door grommet? Rubber pegs?

Wouldn't take a lot to fix it, I have 90% of the parts in my barn....

It can't be all that bad. Degrease the engine with some Degreaser little elbow grease clean it up,HEY its a project car. Every car has a beginning and a story to tell you write the book and tell the story .
