Just got my renewal papers from AIG on the MM and my 6 month premium went from $432 to $879. This is with 100/300 coverage and a $250 ded for 12,000 miles a year(I am 26).

I have had no tickets or accidents. I called AIG and they could not give me a decent answer as to why my rates went up. I was very happy with my previous rate from them, but now I guess I need to start shopping again.

Has anyone else seen a rate increase lately??

No increase. I currently pay $423.44 for 12 months. This is for 300/300/100 with a $500 deductible.

That's about what I pay - $477 for 6 months for two drivers on two vehicles. No increase yet.

Start shoppin' around. Progressive is great I hear until you file a claim. Take the higher deductible because paying for something up to $1000 yourself is probably worth it given that your rates will go up with just about any company if you file a claim for any real value.

It sucks, but the insurance companies will get ya any way they can. They know full coverage is required for most loans, so they will play "nicey-nice" on the pricing until they have a claim, and then you might as well switch providers.

If they nearly doubled my rates, I would want a really good reason or I would switch that very day, and let them know.

Thanks,
-A

I would say the 302 horsepower rating had all to do with the rate going up.

But, $879 doesn't sound too bad considering you are 26.
Be interesting if you find a lower rate. Keep us informed please.

No major increase here. Try a different Ins. Co.

I still think that's a bargain since I pay about $2700-2800 a year for my Marauder. I've been with Progressive my whole life, so I really can't give you any advice unfortunately on what to do...............

0 deductable and $628/year through statefarm.

We get this rate with the multiple policy deal, they insure everything we own!
BTW: This rate held firm even when I once drove a truck years back and aquired 11 of a possible 12 points on my license for driving violations in one year. 1 point from a 6-month suspension.

I am good and clean now, and have had 0 points for more than 5 years!

Just renewed with Amica at $889 annual with $1K deductible. No increase over last year (actually last 6 months prorated - purchased in Dec 03).

Time to shop around. Progressive is usually good, but nobody has ever been able to beat the price I get from Farm Bureau.

Thanks for the responses. The last time I looked around, I got quotes ranging from $500 to $800. So in any case, I think $879 is high. My original rate of $432 from AIG was obviously too good to be true. At least it lasted for six months.

Oh well, time to start shopping again.

Allstate ; $1000 deductuble; $225 per 6 Months. When I had a Viper it was almost the same price. My SVT Focas is $15 more per 6 monthes than the MM.

No increase. I just changed ins company, (not because of rate increase) and my rate went down.

Shop around. As Sheriff says, your age probably has something to do with it.
Did your rate on the Corvette go up as well?

Actually my rate on the Corvette has gone down over the years. I am only paying $550 for 6 months, which is pretty reasonable. But I have it insured as a "pleasure use vehicle" which probably helps.

I guess the need to switch companies often is a reality. And as many of you point out, the fact that I am a single male who is under 30 is not helping much either.

I'm using AllState and love it. Great rates, and have covered every claim I have filed, without any problem (filed over 4 in the last year).

They probably thought you had a Grand Marquis and found out you have a performance "Boat" instead!!! :(

Your age and the car's "performance" rating probably did you in!!

Mine is about $1400 a year but SC rates are among the highest in the nation!! :fire:

My soon to be insurance rates on a 04 will be about $950 a year.

Not bad considering the 1995 Cobra I was going to drive and insure is $400 a year more...with the same hp :)

I believe I caught about a 35-40% increase switching from the 93 GM LS sport to the Marauder with the same coverage, miles/yr deductable etc.

Not to steal this thread, but how is your car listed with your insurance company. My 2003 300A VIN came back as a Grand Marquis. I made them change it to a Marauder in teh event of a total loss. I want a replacement to be a Marauder...not a GM. At this time I don't suspect a large difference in cost of the two, but a few years from now that could be a different story.

I pay Allstate about $860 per year, $500 deductible on collision. It has always been listed as a Marauder from day one, Three drivers in household, one 20 year old.

What I don't understand is having to pay insurance on all four vehicles. My wife and I are the only drivers in the family. We have insurance on four cars, and only one of them is driven to and from work on a regular basis. I have a company truck that I use for work, but we still pay regular rates for the other 3 cars. Since we only carry liability on my pickup and Mustang, and we can't drive more than 2 at a time anyway, shouldn't the other two be insured for free? :bigcry:

Yep, my wife, Barbara, and I just had a hike from $600 semiannual to $750 with
State Farm here in Mississippi. Reason given: The initial repair costs were
underestimated. :mad2:  :( :bigcry:

Yeah, a few years ago I had AIG and they did the exact same thing. It started out very inexpensive. I can't remember if it was after 6 months or a year, but the rates skyrocketed and I had no tickets or claims. If I remember correctly, in the rate increase notice they mentioned something about how they use credit ratings (in part) to judge the risk for insuring a person. They said mine recently changed, it hadn't, I still had good credit. I think they just use low rates to get you in and then scam you with a huge hike and see if you stay anyway? I don't know, but within a few days, I dumped them. IMHO you should call 6 or so companies. In my experience, there was always one company that was 20 or 30 % less then the others. It's like certain companies target certain age groups and offer them great rates. I'm with AAA right now. They offer multiple car and house plus car discounts. Also, they offer discounts for members of credit unions. The discount is higher for some credit unions. You might be able to get the agent to tell you which credit union gets the largest discount, then see if you can join it. Good luck...

Jeff - I tend to agree. Certain ins. companies will give you a low ball price to start and then increase you each time you renew. :bs:
