So the wife has been driving our car and tonight she came to the shop, grabbed the doggy, went back out to the car and the stereo only plays through the subwoofer... I've googled this, I found one guy on CV.net that said he had installed a Marauder stereo and amp and grounded out his wiring... we've not done anything to the sound system at all... any ideas?

The sub is the only thing amplified in the vehicle. All four speakers are run off radio power. Unless the radio amplifier croaked which is extremely rare. Been doing this 25 years and have yet to see one just lose all 4 channels at once.

You have one bad speaker most likely. It causes the radio to protect itself. The sub has an independent amp so on it plays. You can try this.

Get in the quietest area you have shut all doors. Turn key on.Have radio off. wait till all ding dings are over then listening closely to each speaker, turn on the radio. You might hear a small pop or snap out of one speaker. If so locate the pop and you might have found the culprit.

You can alsp fade and balance to each speaker one at a time ,shut the radio off then back on while on one speaker. You might have sound on some of them. They will be your good ones. Only one will not work most likely. I've seen a factory radios amp just give up the ghost for no good reason. Again, old stereo installer trick on some aftermarket and oem radios. Hit me up if you need more help.

Good advice! My pennies worth. Just go ahead and replace the stereo and speakers. The stereos on three of mine have all gone bad. Put fancy Pioneer 8100 in two of them. I like the back up camera feature. good luck!

Thanks for the insight, I like factory radios so the aftermarket is out for me. As of today, the damn thing works again.

I like factory radios so the aftermarket is out for me. I agree with you, Chris. Most of the aftermarket stuff is either ugly to look at, or has too many menus and submenus on a single-button...

Sounds like a bad, loose or grounded connection somewhere.

Check the manual. There is a "diagnostic" mode you can activate where it cycles each speaker on and off, among other things. Sometimes that will wake it up and make it start behaving.
