I was headed back to my hometown yesterday from meeting w/Dan on the Berlin TNPK. here in CT., and I pull up along side this guy atleast in his 70's behind the wheel of a 95 Chevy Caprice Classic, who had who I assume must have been his wife in the passenger seat who was also well in her 70's.

When the light turns green I take off and the guy hammers it and is trying to keep up w/me!!! I figured he was going to scare his wife and was going to back off on the throttle by around 40 MPH or so.......

....but we got up to 60 MPH and he's still got it pegged keeping right w/me!! Granted, I didn't have it hammered to the floor, but i was on the go pedal pretty good, and was into the boost!! I thought to myself..."Most motorists w/hi-perf cars don't even try messing w/me, and this guy really wants to race"

So by 65MPH, I finally decided to end all of this, and I put her to the floor and stayed that way til about 90 MPH. So then I let off and he must of given up too. Hois car went pretty good though. I'm not sure, but I think that from 94-96 the Caprice Classics also had the 350 LT1 engines just like the Vettes, Impala SS, and the Buick Roadmasters did. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that. But I remember a couple years ago driving a Caprice from a used car dealer that I was consedering to purchase, and that thing left some serious rubber, and it had posi as well. That was a 95 and this car that this guy had looked just like it. Anyway, maybe that will be me when I reach my 70's...

Ya just never know where your next challenge will come from. BTW, when I got back into my home town, I finally was challenged by a Mustang for the first time on route 34 and I smoked em. It looked like about a 2002 or so, and it had an automatic transmission too.

He:

1) Was worried they would miss the Early Bird special at Shoneys
2) Had the Run for the Border Special at Taco Bell, and was down to his last depends.
3) Realized he only had about 30 minutes left on his Levitra, and the hot mama he'd asked out from the home finally said "eh, why not"
4) Was not about to let some whippersnapper in a dang Mercury smoke him!

You are correct. Any GM B-Body car from 94-96 had the LT1 as an option.

Thanks for answering that for me. This old hot rodder obviously new what he has and likes to enjoy that power once in awhile. I think it was pretty cool and also amusing at the same time. I almost wished that I let him win to let him have his fun all the more. But on the other hand, I couldn't allow the reputation of the Marauder be tarnished. So I had to show em what the Black Beauty can do. Who knows, maybe the guy will drag his wife over to the Mercury dealer, and buy a Marauder.:D

Donny,

Those are funny.....

Billy, one day you'll be the geezer that surprises some young whipper snapper in his hot rod.

Are they all RWD? Chevy had the Caprice Classic, but what are the other GM brands and flavors for the B-body?

OK you young whipper-snappers--don't take that holier-than-thou attitude toward us SSSSCs :nono: -- we were running at better than 100 mph when your mother wasn't even a glow in your grandmother's eye. :bounce: We didn't have all the fancy fuel injection, electronic gadgets, wide tires, disc brakes---etc and we still managed to lay some serious rubber. The next time you see one of us driving a performance car--just remember we started this whole hot rod thing. All we ask is that you keep on with the fun and hope you enjoy it as much as we have and are still enjoying. ---if you see a Marauder with a grey-headed old fool driving it and a hood ornament on the front---watch out  Old Man Marauder Maury

Billy, I have been following you closely and have learned a lot from you about all thwe technical do-dads you folks have to deal with these days--in the old days, we just made a change, bolted it on, and if it didn't come apart--it was a successful mod. If I could fit it in the budget and justify it, I would have been in the first round of s/ced Marauders---right now I have to be content with a DR Flash--but I am having a BALL meeting all you younger folks --it's made me at least 10 years younger mentally trying to keep up with you. I've had a lot of fun in my life, and am having a lot more now---See you in Indy     Maury

Billy, just because he was a senior doesn't mean his car wasn't modded. LOL

Billy, just because he was a senior doesn't mean his car wasn't modded. LOL Yeah, that's true RC. I can just see the guy at the local speed shop walking out the door after paying his bill for the Supercharger installation saying ..."See ya again boys" (LOL).

Thanks for the kind words Maury. That's encouraging to me. I appreciate that. I know a little about what you mean about modding older cars that are much easier to work on. I just had to sell my 73 Vette that I had for 6 years. I replaced the cylinder heads on that, and had done two camshaft changes on it along w/ swaping out several different carbs, three intake manifolds, and installed an electronic ignition system w/a new distributor too.

Man, that car was so easy to work on. And atleast I knew what everything was under the hood when I opened it. I look at my Marauder, and say, "Now what the heck is that I'm lookin at?".

I want to be like Maury when I grow up. But then, I don't really think I'll ever grow up.
