Hello,

just got done changing my blend door actuator (Boy that was fun! SIKE. Not impossible and not as hard as it may seem though) With the help of a members step by step write up on here. I was oh so excited to once again be able to experience ice cold AC. Only to find that my AC compressor is not kicking on!!!!

What is the recommended course of action in this case? assuming it is not an electrical problem, and there indeed is a problem with the clutch. Can I just buy a new compressor and swap it in? any specific diagnostic tests I can do to narrow things down? It worked before the blend door actuator went out. That was 6+ months ago. Previously I had noticed some sort of weird twitching and clicking noise coming from the serpentine belt. Im wondering if this was the clutch on its way out.

Make sure the AC clutch exciter wire is plugged in first and if so go to the main power box under the hood and switch out the AC relay with the horn or one of the others......I think there are 4 of them just alike (30 Amp) IIRC??

My AC compressor was very slow to engage and after checking everything I found the AC relay had burned points causing the problem......hope that's all it is for you too.....GOOD LUCK!!

See if you have power at the clutch wire.... do it with the engine off.

I bet there is no Freon in the system. Check the bottom of the receiver dryer for rust out.

If the dryer is good, do a dye test. We were losing Freon from the switch on on of the cooler lines. Ended up replacing the lines as well. They just don't build 'em like they used to.

Sweet. I was just about to suggest the relay. Mine would kick on an off at times. Most often times it is the cheapest part that is the problem.

I had to swap relays in my car as well. New one was less than $10 at auto parts, free at my next trip to a you pull yard.
