updates will be throughout the comments. feel free to ask any questions or leave some constructive criticism/ opinions

ok so, coming from the evo game, you can say purchasing this car is about a 180 degree turn around from what im accustomed.

this is my 1st ford, 1st v8, 1st supercharged car and i LOVE it. bought it not too long ago and spun a rod bearing:burnout: (#1) so here is my build-

here she is-

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y523/minimarine09/20170308_160949_zpstygcpmpf.jp g (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/minimarine09/media/20170308_160949_zpstygcpmpf.jp g.html)

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y523/minimarine09/20170308_160925_zpse2tzqize.jp g (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/minimarine09/media/20170308_160925_zpse2tzqize.jp g.html)

one day i turned her on and i hear *CLANKCLWSEJFGHHBNCWO" aftermath-

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y523/minimarine09/20170428_120448_zpsdsqwwjzx.jp g (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/minimarine09/media/20170428_120448_zpsdsqwwjzx.jp g.html)

so out comes the engine!

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y523/minimarine09/20170427_090354_zpsggkn65hx.jp g (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/minimarine09/media/20170427_090354_zpsggkn65hx.jp g.html)

pretty expensive way to hold the converter in -

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y523/minimarine09/20170501_075325_zpswvrisaiu.jp g (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/minimarine09/media/20170501_075325_zpswvrisaiu.jp g.html)

so i started to take the engine apart, looks like its ran pig rich for a bit of its life, so much build up everywhere...:puke:

much more to come

some goodies finally came in and **** got instantly real, machine shop time!
heads- full valve job, deck, cleaned, pressure tested
block- bored .040 over, decked, cleaned align honed with arp fasteners everywhere

while waiting on the machine shop i did some cleaning and setting up/ ordering parts at home, decided to strip down and paint the valve covers/ coil covers (what a mess! ), the picture makes it look a little dark but its ford blue-

went with wrinkle black for the valve covers, i really like the contrast!

Looking good! What Procharger are you running?

My F1-A sucked it's own impeller cone in last fall and my will to want to fix or spend money on has simply plummeted.. So imagine a 700 HP toy transformed into a low compression probably 225 hp killjoy and that's where I'm currently at! Still looks and sounds like it's got game, but all pose, no go.. [emoji6] This year at least.

Really cool to have an import guy get hooked. These cars all came factory with some kind of ****ed up addiction that's like crack built in option. And it seems to be easily inhaled to however is close to you as well so warn your friends. Oh, and I'm not kidding..

Good luck!

ok so, a number of parts have come in

of course the manley rods and pistons (17cc dish)
arp head studs/ main studs/ side bolts
cobra kellog crank
3.4" pulley for the D1sc (going from a 3.8)
IW 10% OD crank dampener

(doing the math, i made 10-11psi with the 3.8 pulley going to 3.4"should gain me ~4psi, then the od crank should net me about 3-4 more psi, so im guessing ill be around 18-19psi :banana2: )

dual improved walbro ford gt pumps
13-15 shelby gt 500 injectors
modded fpdm
snow performance stage 2 meth kit :snowman:
on3 coolant crossover delete
sfi certified flex plate
egr delete plate
new oil pump gears
new oil pressure and boost gauges (didnt like the old ones)
cometic head gaskets
and a bunch of misc stuff. plugs, oil, thermostat, ect....

thinking about getting a thump racing tensioner to eliminate any more doubt in my head about belt slip.

also polished up the procharger! AMERICA!!!!!:flag:

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y523/minimarine09/20170518_051957_zpsentdoeob.jp g (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/minimarine09/media/20170518_051957_zpsentdoeob.jp g.html)

got the block and heads back, started gapping the piston rings gotta love file to fit!..... :censor:

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y523/minimarine09/20170510_113806_zpsebnwnaay.jp g (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/minimarine09/media/20170510_113806_zpsebnwnaay.jp g.html)

short block MOSTLY assembled, i accidentally broke a 2nd compression ring so i had to call total seal to send me another one, ring was only 6 bucks but shipping and handling was like 20 ****in dollars! would have been cheaper to mail them a flat rate box IN a flat rate box so they could mail the ring to me. lol.

(havent painted the block yet in this picture so dont mind the nasty aluminum, its all shiny now)

http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y523/minimarine09/20170516_152123_zpskh4inh17.jp g (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/minimarine09/media/20170516_152123_zpskh4inh17.jp g.html)

i also ordered a canton windage tray since i realized a little toolate that i gotthe "non windage tray" main studs. so this new one mounts between the oil pan and the block instead of mounted to the main caps. anyways, so i decided ill throw the head on the side that actually has 4 cans in it, so as of now this is how she sits. coming together though!

ok so, the piston ring finally came in, time to hustle, i gather everything for the last piston, file doen the ring, gapped perfect, assemble the piston, go to take off the rod caps,

ONE OF THE ROD BOLT WAS CROSS THREADED OR OVER TORQUED FROM FACTORY :mad2:
at this point im pretty upset at manley for this poor quality control, but it is what it is

i called manely about it right away, and without hesitation or queestions they got the big end and little end measurements from me and got another rod on the way, plus a free shirt so im not too upset anymore, plus there is PLENTY more to do even though im at a stand still with the motor...

i know! i can change my rear end gears (going from 4.30s to 3.73s) why? becuase ~600 hp and 4.30 gears is stupid. your leg would fall off every race from pedaling so much. plus thisis my daily, and im tired of cruising at 3k plus rpm at 70-80 mph. i gotta save gas somehow!:baaa:

You might want to weld as much of that piping as you can to avoid blow offs. My pipes are three pieces altogether and joined by V clamps. The only rubber I have is at the throttle body and even that pipe is braced to the TB. Welded stock engine mounts and you really can't feel any difference.

I have even blown my vacuum line off under the dash for the EATC with only the 20# street tune. You start cranking up the boost things start popping loose!

I really liked my D1SC. It chewed up a belt one time too many and I switched to a twin screw. That was in the days before Thump tensioners, I had a steel one and it was reinforced to boot. Slung the belt, frayed it to shreds, and bent the tensioner.

Consider adding the extra idler between the alternator and PS pump. It really helps.

This is awesome pictures and editorial!!! I am just down the interstate from you (Exit 128). I'll look you up next time I am in that area. My Merc doesn't leave the garage much but your build looks like the hot ticket if I ever find myself on the receiving end of a failed motor. Kudos to Manley for correcting their issue with no questions asked.

that is a very sick and clean setup, 0 turbulence in the charge air i bet. yea, for now im just going to have to work with what i got, my evos peak boost was 29.5psi and hit that daily, what i find best for silicone couplers, scuff up the ends to the pipes, and use hair spray. works like a charm, after i did that, i never had another issue with blowing out intercooler pipes.

yup! thanks so much for reminding me, do you know a cheap place to find the pulley/ standoff/bolt? is there a kit?

im also buying the thumprrr. i just havent yet becuase it makes me sweat thinking about spending 500 on a tensioner...:bigcry:

Good move on the tensioner.

Sorry, When I sold my setup I let the idler pulley go an can't recall the size. I know there are a few others who have done the mod, so somebody will probably chime in soon.

I believe the pulley is Napa 36101. I can't remember for sure but seems to me the water pump pulley lip will need to be machined off.

I had bought a stand off but didn't need it with my manual tensioners so I sold it.

You are not alone. I too like the lower revs at freeway cruising speeds. Our Freeways are 75MPH which means 80mph is slow and will get you run over by an 18 wheeler.

Looks AWESOME, thanks you for sharing, and for your service to our country.

Again, this is the simplest, easiest way to accomplish the same thing...
The idler boss can be purchased through Metco, LFP and Procharger I think:
All you need to do is take a timing cover bolt out and bolt this on

Thanks everyone! My canton windage tray came in, it's a very stout proper looking piece. I spent all day yesterday cleaning up the threads on my pinion because I was to lazy and used a hammer to remove the pinion. Needless to say, the hammer slipped off the punch I was using and flattened some beginning threads, but I saved it though! I'll get some more pictures of the progress when I'm in some wifi, went over my data now is super slowwwww

Thank you, almost everything is easy to physically do as long as you have the tools, half the battle is picking up those tools and digging in. Lol. All the knowledge that I've learned is either from experience, or research. If I ever have a question about something in my head I'll just Google it. Lol what a day and age to be alive. Lol!

and then after about 5 attempts, i accidentally dropped the backlash shims and they went everywhere, so i placed the diff down and walked away slowly...:censor:

either way, this is a really good read if you find yourself changing your gears.
http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y523/minimarine09/20170523_083220_zpsowf4wwfj.jp g (http://s1279.photobucket.com/user/minimarine09/media/20170523_083220_zpsowf4wwfj.jp g.html)

i learned a cool trick to get the ring/ diff out, you just place a rag or something on the ring and rotate the ring gear with a wrench and the rag pushes it out of its seat. pretty cool.

pops right out

then i decided to put in some new gauges. i still need to dim them quite a bit (they have an adjustment on the back) the pictures dont really give them justice, then i moved my wideband to my steering column.

Oh yea for sure, I rotate it even after I sneeze lol. Im still going to clean up the remains of the pick up tube scraper so I have a little more clearance between the tube and tray.

Also I'm seeing 2 different ways to modify the main tensioners 1st way is just grinding smooth the bottom 3-4 teeth, and the second is to grind all of them and use a purchased spacer, it's there any Benefit to either way? I'm thinking of just doing the 1st way unless there is a significant benefit /reason to go with the 2nd way with the spacers. Anyone?

Yup! That was most likely me, I drive all over Tampa but I live in northdale, so you probably caught me on my way home. For sure, once I'm up and running we can figure something out. Is there a Tampa marauder club or anything?

Ok so I decided to continue to start from scratch with the rear end, with no special tools or gauges (besides for backlash) what a pain this has been, and every source that I come across shows a different way of doing it and some of the info contradicts each other. It's my own fault for dropping all those damn shims... Anyways by trial and error I am getting closer. I did make my life easier by slightly grinding down the inside of the large pinion bearing so I don't have to waste time pressing it on and off every time I have to change the pinion shims.

I hope you used a new bearing to press on for final assembly after you determined your shim thickness. If not, that race is going to spin on the pinion while driving and ruin the gear set, as well as everything else in the axle in no time.

minimarine09
05-26-2017, 07:16 AM
Oh of course, I forgot to mention that. This bearing is strictly for fitting the pinion shims to save me hours total.

Not that I know of. There are a few guys here and there around the bay area, but no meet ups or clubs as far as I know. You're pretty handy with a set of tools. If I ever need any mechanical advice, I know who I'm callin on haha. By the time you get done with this, you'll know the car inside and out.

Before anything else, is there a representative from thump racing on here?

Anyways

Ok so little update, finally finished the rear end, got my rod in, or the last piston /rod into the block and started throwing the heads on.

https://i.imgur.com/cLdXy6Ul.png

Cleaning up the rockers and installing them, only "special tool" I used was a flat head... Lol

https://i.imgur.com/VMDLYaMl.png

I ran into an issue where the crank sprocket with the timing kit didn't have a boss/offset one one side, which would cause the trigger wheel to hit the chain. Just ended up getting a new one from ford.

https://i.imgur.com/GYGjkydl.png

So now it's time to degree the cams. I have the a bunch of the special tools to hold the cams and whatnot, but completely forgot about a degreeing wheel, and a TDC piston stop. Thank God for printers and cardboard! Lol

I'm currently making a piston stop tool aswell -

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. I'm learning some as I go aswell. It's hard to get progress fairly quick since I only work on it for a few hours a day, and don't have access to it on weekends. It's a slow process but it's getting there!

Ok so I got some work done on the engine, cams degreed, some parts painted, had allot of issues with windage tray clearance but I got it dialed in now.

Got my 2013 gt500 injectors in, but unfortunately they are about 12mm too short, so I have some hat spacers on the way.

https://i.imgur.com/dZDre97l.png

https://i.imgur.com/jFu3vTrl.png

So my thump tensioner boss was in the wrong location, I guess the mach 1s are slightly different, so the thump tech support tools me to just drill and tap for an 8mm bolt where the dowel needs to be,

So I did and I was extremely nervous drilling into this expensive tensioner lol

The head of the bolt was still a bit too big for the hole in the front cover, so ever so slightly south a cutting wheel, I ground it down to a perfect snug fit. Way better than the dowel that came on it! If you look closely you can see where the old one was (the pulley in this picture was on backwards, dont do that...)

I still have to re remove the dampener because I didn't grind down the crank position Sensor boss far enough, kind of nervous to go through, but I guess if I do, it's nothing a little jb weld can't fix lol

https://i.imgur.com/uPqIHkDl.png

And I love my punisher egr delete plate. I want to make my oil cap and coolant cap with the same design, might be the cars name! Punisherauder! Lol

had to cut the lip of the water pump pulley down a bit in order to fit a belt between it and the IW damper

https://i.imgur.com/w9IPwUul.jpg

started putting the coolant system in after a bunch of misc. stuff on the motor. my pass. side coolant sensor hits the supercharger. also the 90 degrees that comes with the on3 kit doesnt clear either. so i drove around and found double female, and double male fittings for -10 AN to lift it higher to clear everything. also got a 90 degree 3/8 NPT fitting so i can mount the sensor vertically.

i know i could have just ran 45 degree fitting and clear, but i dont like the way one side the hose is flat, and one is at an upward angle, if this set up bring it too high then ill just go for the 45.

https://i.imgur.com/Q8Dxzpbl.jpg

also, the old upper coolant elbow was promoted to new lower hose connector. hopefully it doesnt get in the way of the intercooler pipes.

i have it, just need to throw it on, need to find a bolt first. i may need a slightly longer belt if im not able to stretch it with the extra pulley. idk, i just called tech support at thump racing and told me that, so i just listened. feels much more snug than the one it came with.

The Thump tensioner is well worth the cost. I went thru numerous belts and stock tensioners trying to rid slip with my old Trilogy set up at 20#s. After the Thump, not a single belt slip incident afterwards. But yes it was very hard to spend that coin on just a tensioner... [emoji30]

I couldn't be happier switching over to Procharger (except for the known impeller cone flaw that plagued me as well as many others..) But the cog bracket/pulley set up and both tensioners being manual adjust and so damn SIMPLE. Any time I've removed the belts and re tensioned it's simply "that feels good" and never once a squeal or a slip. LOVE THE SIMPLICITY!

Not cheap whatsoever though.. But uber strong.

https://i.imgur.com/kMR3lKGl.png

I have a much larger ebay intercooler that came with the piping but you can see right through the core, probably allot less efficient than my procharger intercooler (they use a Garrett core I believe) so I decided to keep the procharger unit.

Got a nice straight piece prior to the Maf to get the best / lowest turbulence reading possible

Because methanol is the ****! Great boost in octane / cooling capabilities/ knock supression/ steam cleaning. What's not to love

You can't **** in my cheerios today my friend, I was going to wait until I got it in, but. About to order a triple ceramic ball bearing 7475. Remove the fuel tank, make a fuel cell in the trunk, mount turbo up where fuel tank was feed it with a single 2.5" piece,. 96ar. This thing is going to buggy uggy.

I had no malicious intent in my posting.

I have always wanted to remove the back seat, build an enclosure and mount turbos in that newly created space.
Am I to assume you are using the Comp Self Contained turbo?

What Meth Kit are you using?

Well I bought the snow stage 2 kit but the only things I'm using is the controller and the pump, I wanted to switch to braided lines /fittings, so I contacted Rodney Michels from prometh and got this bad ass tank and ss line kit with a couple nozzles. He gave me a great deal toohttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180209/2d7649c4b9fcedfff4d2ebe7248a5a f4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180209/ca63e55d043ad0d109242d1f765c1f b1.jpg

Smart choice - "I wanted to switch to braided lines /fitting".

Recently fixed 2 10 year old tension hose fittings that started to leak.

I have both a non-meth street tune and a racing meth tune. It's best to run the meth pump every month.

I suggest you have a method of checking the tank levels to make sure the system is working and to catch any leaks.

I want to install a "purge/test" button or possibly even a flow gauge, but I need to find a good one

It's been like Christmas lately, just a bunch of flanges and fittings and hose, etc... You know, the little things that add up like no other...

Also got my fuel cell in, everything fits in the trunk so nice, battery will be on the left.

I have everything for the fuel system now. Just need to modify the factory fuel hat to make it straight and short, add a little baffling for the socks, mount it in the tank and plumb my hoses/fittings.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/f8304f67c3214dacaf19f36fb533a7 ab.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180222/2eed88a70805539fecf5f4a3544634 24.jpg

Julio Don Alky Control should have a fluid level sensor you can use, and it turns on a light to let you know your low. I always fill the meth bottle before taking the car for a spin, it can slosh back and suck air if its too low.

He has a lot of options, check him out, he is in tampa florida.

50% Meth/50%H2O is Windshield Washer Fluid.

100% Meth is - "Methanol (methyl alcohol) is a hazardous material, in the same flammability, toxicity and reactivity hazard classes as gasoline." - Art MacCarley, Ph.D., PE. , Professor of Engineering California Polytechnic State University.

There is a reason fuel tanks are where they are.

There is a reason fuel tanks are where they are.Depending how low my iat is prior to the nozzle will dictate what % of meth I will use, since I'll most likely be spraying near the throttle body, and iat will most likely be pretty low with a BUNCH of piping /intercooler, I'll need a higher ratio of meth to water for proper "evaporation"

if any water at all.

I'm my opinion, the only reason why ford put the fuel tank in the factory position, is because they didn't put a turbo there first. Lol

I'm also debating on swapping my rear gears once again to 3.55 or possibly 3.27s. I'm going to have to load up the motor pretty good to help spin the turbo, and be a little more street friendly.

FYI....- 20 degree windshield washer fluid is 30% Methanol/70% Water...I sell it to all the Rental Car Agencies in my area.
Boost Juice is 49% Methanol/51% Water.
Straight Methanol is very dangerous - Very flammable stuff!
(I'm looking at a Snow kit for my Fusion Sport...Turbos love Meth Injection!)

(I'm looking at a Snow kit for my Fusion Sport...Turbos love Meth Injection!)I personally wouldn't trust any windshield washer fluid through my pumps / nozzles, some have lubes and additives that can build up and clog up the nozzles

And methanol is actually less flammable than gasoline, so I'm not too worried, the only scary thing about it to me is that it burns clear.

I will base my meth mixture on my iat, since I'll have about a mile of cold piping, including an intercooler, my iat should be fairly low, so I will most likely end up having to go around 80-100% meth for proper evaporation /cylinder dispersion

From Snow;

9. What ratio of water/methanol is recommended?

• A 50/50 ratio is recommended. This has been demonstrated to be the best for charge/air cooling, excellent detonation control, and safety.

• Ratios of anywhere from 30% to 50% methanol work well and deliver excellent octane gains and cooling.

10. Can I use pure methanol?

While all components of Snow Performance systems are designed to be able to handle pure methanol, it is not recommended for a number of reasons.

• Safety: Pure methanol is easy to ignite witha low 140F degree flash-point and burns with an invisible flame.
• Performance: Water absorbs almost twice as much heat as methanol in the intake and inside the combustion chamber. Water cannot be flash-ignited, so has what is almost an infinite octane number. In the government studies for WWII piston-powered aircraft, 50/50 water-methanol was found to be the best fluid to use for auxiliary fluid injection.
