In the beginning it was discovered Ford had them more for "show". It was discovered with details and posted somewhere. Where can I find the specifics on this again. Thanks..

It wasn't for show per se, it was for convenience (Ford's) and to save money.
Ford was tired of people bringing their cars in for warranty service because the oil pressure was fluctuating, as it does normally in any engine, so they decided to build all their oil pressure gauges like a dummy light: it's either "on" and you have a good reading or it's "off" and you have a zero reading. When the pressure is approx 6 lbs, the switch turns on and causes the gauge to read somewhere in the middle, which makes ignorant people happy. This change was made back in the early '90's if not earlier. My 1995 E350 work truck had a dummy gauge.
The voltmeter, although not highly accurate, is actually "real".

IIRC...Honda has replaced all of their gauges with a light that reads:
"The thingy ma jig is running, so don't worry about anything else but your cell phone"

I'm curious, does anyone know if there is an Autometer Boost gauge that matches the OEM backlit Oil and Volts gauges?

The Ultra-Lite series uses perimeter lighting, not back-lighting, so it isn't an exact match.

That's right..shoot..I was thinking when replacing to real oil and volt gauges...what would match..my error.

Thanks..Tom if you had come to Marauderville Cleveland you could have heard Steve Babcock tell the story why the Marauder got the gauges it got. Retired guys :shake::P

Sort of. Honda sends it's millennial driver a text message as the only screen kids look at nowadays is their cell phones. Niece recently got this one when she thought she was low on power.

Nothing wrong with the voltmeter - it just isn't terribly useful. Well, OK, it isn't very precise, either.

This (https://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2993)thread details the steps needed to swap the guts of a real oil gauge into the oem one so you can have a working oem one. I did it to mine, it is delicate work.
As mentioned, all real ultra-lites use perimeter lighting so if you just put in the autometer one, the oem volt gauge next to it won't match. I put the boost gauge on my A-pillar so it is far enough away that most people don't notice. haha
